MY neighbour is 76 and loves his big quick cars (his last car was a Bentley continental GT), really hope i'm still alive at 76 let alone driving a modded golf  :happy2:

He had a ferrari 5-6 years back but sold it when he had back trouble and could no longer get in it (or out of it)  :happy2:

He has a v8 Range Rover now  :happy2:

Our decorator drives a candy white GTI and he's in his 70's. He loves it but for him it's a real tool. It continuously has a roof rack on it and is covered in paint inside. He's always talking about GTIs to me.

.............. :scared: such a shame to treat a GTI that way. :sad1:

I disagree, the beauty of a Golf is it's versatility. The fact it packs a bit of performance is just a bonus. I don't think they should be treated like sacred objects!

I was never into cars growing up, but the only car I ever wanted was a Golf.

A guy in my street had a detached house with a quadruple garage and yard - was always filled with VeeDubs, so I'd wake up on weekends as a kid to the roar of a Beetle, campervan or Golf engine. The street would be lined with VW's...always. Tragically and ironically he died in his campervan in the 90s after leaving his portable gas heater on.

I believe the Golf is a tool that should be used - I love mine but it has car park dents, stonechips to the paint and scrapes on the interior.

I also agree with what others have stated recently, that you strike up some sort of bond with a Golf - maybe because of its history? I have never treated mine as an investment but something that I'm going to make full use and convenience out of.

What's the saying - a Golf is a car driven by both the professor and the student?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

WOW ! Makes me feel like a real youngster. I expect I may be still driving my throbbin' red Mk5 GTI when I'm 76.

Is it just me who thinks he reminds you of a Meerkat?

....Judging from the thumbs-up in the pic, it looks like he will - Sy had made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
