Wrong Springs?
« on: July 11, 2012, 07:13:18 pm »
I wonder if anyone can help me and confirm my fears?!

I've had some H&R 30mm springs fitted by a garage to my GTI.  When I initially saw it I thought that it didn't look much lower but thought it would just "settle down". So I drive home via a few roundabouts! and when I got out it just kinda looks like the normal ride height.  When I look I can see that there are H&R springs on it but it doesn't look any lower!  I've got the box with a part number, I think they have fitted normal Golf springs to a GTI, can someone confirm this for me please?  Thanks!

It's the first time I've had a car lowered so wasn't sure how far it would "settle"!  But it isnt going to settle 30mm is it?!

I've found some part numbers here, are they correct??
These match the part number I have on my box but they look to like they are for a normal golf  www.dpmperformance.co.uk/hr-35mm-lowering-suspension-springsbr-golf-5-golf-5-plus-19tdi-20sdi-20tdi-fwd-1003-p-3128.html

These are for a GTI and have a different part number: http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/hr-30mm-lowering-suspension-springsbr-golf-5-gti-20t-fsi-1004-p-679.html

Would it not be a bit lower if it was normal golf springs due to the extra weight of the gti?

Mine looks lower than that at stock height

Nope totally wrong springs. 29176-1 is the part no you need. These are for the gti only. Did the garage you had them fitted at supply them? If so its probably because the ones you have fitted are about £70 cheaper. The ones for the gti usually come in at around the £200 mark. Hope this helps

If they supplied the springs then they have got it wrong as I'm sure those springs give a 40-45mm drop on the standard mk5's, which obviously sit higher as standard. I'm having the H&R GTI springs fitted next week and they have the part number gazon69 mentions :happy2:

usually the quoted drop (in this case 30mm) is quoted over standard ride height - but your GTI doesn't have standard ride height as it was lower than standard cars in the first place. ergo the drop would have been quite small

What does the front look like??

I'd recommend sticking your head under the rear of the car and look at the writing on the springs. Rear springs should have and "R" on them in white writing   :happy2:

I've got H&R springs and the whole car sits nicely in the arches. Something is not right with yours as the rear should be a lot lower

Here's an easy way to remember. If anyone says they fit an altea, avoid them coz there the wrong ones.
