2008 Golf GTI Ed30 - Sluggish in low revs, very (very!) low MPG

Did you have the cam belt changed... if so It sounds like they have got the cam timing wrong !!! it seems to happen quite a lot...

Would a cambelt timing being out cause any damage other than just poor performance?

As long as the fool who's done the job gets it no more than a few teeth out it won't hurt,  just causes the exact symptoms described

A 2.0 Tfsi belt is a doddle to fit, I really can't believe how many are fitted wrong

So, this week the car went into TuningWerkes, and Reuben and his team worked through the problems i described above. The service these guys provide is top notch, the level of knowledge Reuben and his team have is seriously impressive!

Results: She is now back to her normal self! MPG is back on par and we even dropped in the APR re-flash (although drove it on standard mapping for a good while to test it out)

What changed:
1. Plugs had seen better days, swapped out with NGK Iridium
2. PCV replaced
3. And as you all thought, Cam belt was 1 knotch out!!

So, i'm going to have a bit of a moan at the original dealer to see if they can re-fund some of the initial cost... i'll let you know how that goes!

Good to hear you got it sorted bud... What is it with cam belts that people cant get right

Gotta wonder about the mechanics "fitting" these cambelts, as anyone who has ever fitted one will know that fitting the belt is really very easy . The annoying part is gaining access.

If its only 1 tooth out it shouldnt cause any major damage, but im also betting this is whats wrong

 Glad you have it sorted, This topic inspired me as I had the same symptoms with my ED30.Changed PCV,DV and plugs,slight improvement but not quite "how it was" ,then changed DV to the G revision from the MK6 D rev and what a difference,all is purdy again.
