To buy or not to buy Audi TT MK2
« on: July 12, 2012, 10:19:41 am »
Thinking of buying a Audi TT TDI S-Line coupe but not sure if its worth spending £25k on it.

Im ideally after a weekend diesel sports car something abit out of the ordinary as most people around my area either have the BMW 3 series m-sport, Audi A5, Merc C-Class.

Im going to be sharing it with my Dad as he's been quite ill recently and getting quite old and he's always wanted something new, fun to drive but he's never been able to afford it.

After something VAG, and preferably a 2 seater.

Needs to be economical, cheap to run insure and tax and he's not worried about it being fast etc

What do you guys recommend?

I think the TT TDI is a very good car. Strong engine with performance similar to a GTI, 4WD and still has been reported to get near 60MPG on a motorway run. Easily tunable and the chassis is nicely set-up also the quattro is incredible in winter conditions. I'm a little partial to them as you might tell   There is also a lot to tune on the TT too if your interested in that sort of thing. Best to take it for a test drive and go from there  :happy2:

The £25k is a Used Audi TT.

I want the facelift model as i think it looks much better than the standard.

Is it not just different front bumper and led headlights? If so you could save like 5-7k buying a pre and just buying face lift bits. Up to you though. I my self am considering tdi tt or 3.0 TDI A5

rear bumper is different too, and i'd imagine S-Line bits will be hard to get ahold of

personally if i was going for a 8J TT it would be a quattro with the latest 2.0T EA888 engine. they're economical and will still get 305bhp from a stage 1 remap  :driver:

but that doesn't fit your brief, in which case the 2.0TDI would fit the bill nicely! Audi have even released a DSG gearbox version now (first ever 2.0TDI quattro with DSG i think)

Still surprised at how well the TT holds it's value, time will tell with the Scirocco.

I went from mk5gti to 8j TT but the 2lt petrol version, I loved every minute in that car, was surprisingly good on juice as well on long trips, I bought mine for 18k sold for 16.5 18 months on, so they do hold value well.

If it wasn't for children id have another in a heart beat. (saying that edward, could still get in the back at age 5, it was only after his next growth spurt it became more challenging)

the Audi TT 2.0Tdi is a fantastic car as my sister has brought one but do bare in mind that audi customer service is not the greatest and also the common fault of the window regulator cable snapping as it happened to my sisters car and audi wouldn't fix it for less than £300 and they are aware that it is a common fault and wont do a recall

id get a rocco instead, purely due to it having more room.

How mobile is he? A TT is a bit tricky to get in and out of if you're a bit fragile.

Rocco is a good call IMO.
Sideways yo!
