Would you buy a 95k mile MK5 GTI DSG?
« on: July 13, 2012, 08:57:00 am »
Hi,
I am new to the GTI, currently have a mk4 gt tdi 150.
I know of a mk5 gti for sale, dsg, service history upto 80k mile and its for sale with 95k on the clock for a reasonalbe price for the spec.
Would you trust this car with this mileage?
Seems high for an 06 plate car, what would be the things to look out for, the current owner had the cambelt changed at 68k.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marc

As Mat says, it's down to how its been looked after and correctly serviced. But it's a German built Volkswagen, so........... Alles ist gut!

Have a search on this forum for things to look out for. For example, rust on wings, cambelt service, DSG oil changes, etc.

i'd be more worried about the missing service history from the last 15k miles

95k is nothing, agreed people are hung up on miles these days they think 65k is alot. My Mk2 golf had 165k when I sold it and was still going strong.

....But surely not worried if a service wasn't due within those 15k miles.

that would be fairly atypical, even on longlife - no?

anyhow i read the OP as missing service history, rather than service was not due in that time frame. i suppose he can clarify for us

Thanks for the fast reply everyone,
I spoke to the guy selling it and he said..
the last service in the book is 83,737 and the toothed belt was changed at 65,962. To my knowedge nothing has been replaced under warrenty, (as i was asking about the water pump and things if they have been changed under warrenty or as part of a service).
DSG has never had any problems.
I was just looking on the vw site trying to find when the next service would be due as apparently its not listed in the guys service book?
And things like getting the dsg oil changed seems to be quite expensive through vw so...basically what im asking is does anyone have an idea how long it would be untill i need to spend some money on car mainanace?

Thanks

....DSG oil change should be done every 40k miles. It's important, so check.

If you don't use VW dealerships, then I advise to only use garages which know what they are doing with DSG. From the point of view of resale, some folks attach value to seeing Volkswagen stamps in the Service Records.

Bought my 05 on 73k miles 3 weeks ago and it drives like a brand new car.

No rattles, gearbox is as tight as a brand new Mk6 GTI would be expected to be and pulls like a train. I wouldn't expect it all to fall apart in the next 20k miles!

it all depends if the car looks like its been cared for.  I'm currently borrowing a car from a garage whilst mine is in and according to the readout its done 60k but it looks like its done 200k!
