This may not apply to you but some unsavoury sellers internally cover up warning lights so that they are not seen as being lit when looking at the dashboard. This way the unwary buyer doesn't know that a fault is present.

in a moment 'stupidity' before i bought my golf i sold my 2000 1.5 E Almera for a 'nice' 56 Nissan Note... it had its engine management light, ABS and airbag lights taped over... i only realised after i plugged in an OBD reader and it flagged up a load of errors! car had been Cat D twice! managed to get back what i paid for it in part exchange for the golf so all good...
always check for the lights!
