9k for a Golf Gti MK5

Hi, new to the board and looking to buy a Golf Gti, with around a 9k budget. Been checking out autotrader etc and hoping to buy one in the next week or so but for the budget what should i be expecting to get? Should I be more looking towards a newer MK 5 with more miles on the clock or a older one with less mileage. Still not sure whether to go with the manual or the DSG either, and not sure whether mileage would be a factor in this.

Any help or input would be appreciated.

You sholud try both manual and DSG and you will decide yourself. We will all tell you to get what we have, I know I would tell you to get a manual.  :signLOL:

Not sure what 9k gets these days, check out the Fos Sale three on here though. Do you have a "Must Have" list for the spec you want? If so, that may determine which car you go for, be it newer, older, low or high mileage. If your going to modify your car, you could get a poverty spec car which is newer and lower mileage.

Spend a bit more and get an ED30 IMHO.

Cheers mate, well i have only taken the DSG out but i have heard of problems with the DSG although it was a really nice drive.

And been trying to get one with the 18' inch monza alloys and leather interior if possible. But not loads knocking about on autotrader and local garages, but will have a look on here like you suggested mate and i think the ED30 might be a tad too much for me. Could maybe stretch to the 10k mark but that would be about it i think.

I picked up gti about 3months ago for 9300 With 33k on the clock, MFSW, Highline and sunroof. Just had a full service a couple of days before i picked it up.

Some do go for good prices but it can be a waiting game. But depends on how much you want/need one  :evilgrin: and specs.

It was advertised on here and was only about 8 miles away from me so thought i would have a look. Ending up buying the GTI and selling my GT TDI  :evilgrin:

Quite a few cars are advertised on here. Just keep checking every now and then and hope it isnt to far.

Also don't be put off with the frankly insane prices being asked for some of the cars on here.

This is an enthusiasts web site so some of the prices can be a little inflated, I despare why people are still asking early to mid teens for the edition 30 for what is a 4-5 year old car....I'd rather take the 500SL or late last model M3.

Cheers fellas gonna be a matter of checking here, autotrader and eBay for a few weeks and waiting for the right one then I reckon. Btw what would you recommend a higher milage but newer car or an older one but newer milage?

Hi mate,it depends on if you going to modify it & what power you trying to archive??a eddy will be better as its got a different turbo so more power..end of the day it's up to you...good luck with the search

Dont agree that 13k is a silly price for a ED30. A low miles late car is half the age and probably done half the miles of an early GTI. A 2008 plate SL500 would set you back 30k and is a completely different car so not a fair comparison.

No probs k04 is the type of turbo. As oppose to K03 in GTI's

The ed30's are 230 bhp, basically a de-tuned s3 engine.. Have a better turbo thus have far more potential to tune.

Factor in a new clutch though if your going to remap. Personally think they have enough power for road use as standard.

You got an Ed30 per chance?

Didn't mention it had to be a 2008 SL, rather have the 60k 2005 SL500 with AMG bits than a 60k edition 30 for the same asking price

Build quality / residuals (mile from wheeler dealers gave 7k for a LHD 80's version) / better fun in summer.

An E30 is not worth 3-4k more than the same standard GTI, especially now the Ed35 is out.....

25th Annis had the same mystic pricing by Anni owners until the arse fell out of them, you'd get a good one for 4k now

Never said that 3-4k more for an ed30 over a gti. I was suggesting the difference gets you an car with half the miles and age, in my mind that's good value be it a gti or ed30.

4k for a decent anni is double what you would pay for a decent gti.

My best man is a master tech for merc and his opinion on build quality for 00-05 cars is laughable.

My 77 mk1 is worth more than 7k and cost £2020 + a capri to buy new  :love:

We could go on all day about older cars with more punch for the pound but the thread is about buying a mk5 gti.

Seriously though 10-12k can get you some serious motoring at the moment, I keep seeing some admittedly nice spec 2005 GTIs with 6 figure mileage for 8-10k.....there's a pattern emerging they've either got Xenons / DSG / Leather or they're CW and people expect a vast premium.....

3 days later they're on page 2....so BUMP...........week later .........BUMP then they reduce it by £500 with ABSOLUTELY NO OFFERS.......then BUMP....then "been offered £XYZ on webuyanycar  or trade in" anybody do any better?????

That £4k Anni was £9.5k 2 years ago that was the point I was making.....you sound like you've been around long Enough to remember - same happened with the 20th Anni Mk3.

Got a hard on for a SL just can't get rid of it!!!!!!  :ashamed:
