Buyer wants to buy my car - should i be concerned?

So after nearly 5 weeks trying to sell the Jetta, being approached by scammers asking me to post my “product” to Nigeria/Africa and accept paypal or a bankers draft etc and having to drop the price by £500 I have been approached by what on the face of it appears to be a genuine buyer. The gent lives in Belfast and is dead keen to buy the car but it seems a little strange that he is prepared to pay out nearly £300 (flight in and ferry back) in travel expenses when he must be able to purchase a similar vehicle closer to home. 

Should I be concerned?

As long as he is willing to come to you and pay in UK £ notes (check them with a currency pen or light) then I cant see a problem.

if you can convince the guy to go with you to a bank and withdraw the money in front of you i don't see what the issue is

Dont worry about it I had a guy fly in and buy my mk2 from me paid cash and said finding cars in Ireland is hard so we have to travel.

Bank transfer would be my choice of payment with me and him in the bank together, certainly wouldn't accept cash.

If he is a genuine buyer he won't have any problems popping to the bank with you tagging along.

Just a last note of caution, make sure he is actually a permanent resident of NI,  if he lives in Ireland (Southern) and he takes the vehicle it is classed as an export.

I'm from NI and was going to go to England to get a gti - bigger selection of cars and it's no big deal to fly over & ferry back. Like a mini-holiday for us "big thicko's from the island" as Ted Crilly said.

Apparently good cars are few and far between over in Ireland, id say its legit, just make sure u take usual care with the money transaction

You still need to take all the precautions but I sold my BMW to someone who flew from Edinburgh to Exeter and then took a 50-mile taxi ride to my place. Had a test drive with me driving for less than 5 miles when he said he'd take it and paid me cash in Scottish £20 notes. The following day I heard that there had been some fake Scottish £20 notes in circulation locally but I didn't have any problems spending mine!

He drove it to Scotland and I heard from him later and he was well pleased and was going to mod it.

Just with a wee population there aren't so many cars to choose from. Also we don't have the motorways so don't get high milers going cheap.

On the upside we have absolutely cracking B-roads which you mainland boys & girls should come over and experience!

no motorways in Ireland you're saying??? There are plenty obviously not as much as Germany or UK but plenty for the population I would think

I seem to be getting loads of interest from N.I, Manchester and Liverpool but nothing locally.

I sold my leon to a guy in southrn ireland at asking price, their bankers drafts are different so I would take cash or bank transfer, cash is simple as you take it to your nearest bank and they verifiy it so both parties are happy.
