Potentially life-threatening technicalities have been going on for several years in one form or another. I don't have a clue how meaningful these current rumblings are - It could even be political posturing. The local area relies very much on the Nurburgring's existence. It would be a tragedy if it folded but someone might take it over, who knows?

I cant imagine the extremely rich german car manufactures would let the nurburgring meet its match if it really came down to it. They would be pretty stupid too anyway.

....Good point. The Nordschleife is used for far more than just Touristfarting days. And the F1 circuit is relatively new.

I reckon this is just govn'ment posturing and wanting private investment / financial structuring.

Well it would indeed in essence be shut...

BMW AUDI ET all would buy it close it to all but a couple of days a month...

Do the math.....If they sold 500 laps a day every day at the current prices the price would have to increase by €70 per lap just to cover the shortfall, assuming at the new prices they won't sell 500 laps a day then it just increases the squeeze on the place.

The manufacturers won't want jimmy big bollocks with his VXR exposing himself to the place for liability reasons so it'll be under a great amount of pressure. Austerity isn't just for Greece
