Auto headlights > sidelights

Morning guys,

just about to get some LED sidelights when something dawned on me. I have auto headlights and like most folk, just leave them on the auto setting for 99.9% of the time.

Does the auto head lights activate the side lights when the ambient light levels reach a certain level?

To be honest, i have never noticed, i only notice when the dipped lights come on when it starts to get dark, just never notice the side lights only ever coming on?

I think that when auto lights come on its sidelights and dipped together. I don't think they come on separately. I know whenever I've been sat behind a car and mine come on, the interior illumination comes on and its definitely dipped that also comes on.
