Dont agree that 13k is a silly price for a ED30. A low miles late car is half the age and probably done half the miles of an early GTI. A 2008 plate SL500 would set you back 30k and is a completely different car so not a fair comparison.

You got an Ed30 per chance?

Didn't mention it had to be a 2008 SL, rather have the 60k 2005 SL500 with AMG bits than a 60k edition 30 for the same asking price

Build quality / residuals (mile from wheeler dealers gave 7k for a LHD 80's version) / better fun in summer.

An E30 is not worth 3-4k more than the same standard GTI, especially now the Ed35 is out.....

25th Annis had the same mystic pricing by Anni owners until the arse fell out of them, you'd get a good one for 4k now

Yep a Ed30 and you supplied my brakes  :happy2:

Never said that 3-4k more for an ed30 over a gti. I was suggesting the difference gets you an car with half the miles and age, in my mind that's good value be it a gti or ed30.

4k for a decent anni is double what you would pay for a decent gti.

My best man is a master tech for merc and his opinion on build quality for 00-05 cars is laughable.

My 77 mk1 is worth more than 7k and cost £2020 + a capri to buy new

We could go on all day about older cars with more punch for the pound but the thread is about buying a mk5 gti.

Thanks for a good debate dave, perked up my Sunday evening

There you go bringing the Mk1 into it....how can I keep up with that.... :notworthy:

Seriously though 10-12k can get you some serious motoring at the moment, I keep seeing some admittedly nice spec 2005 GTIs with 6 figure mileage for 8-10k.....there's a pattern emerging they've either got Xenons / DSG / Leather or they're CW and people expect a vast premium.....

3 days later they're on page 2....so BUMP...........week later .........BUMP then they reduce it by £500 with ABSOLUTELY NO OFFERS.......then BUMP....then "been offered £XYZ on webuyanycar  or trade in" anybody do any better?????

Been watching the classifieds for 12 months since the rocco went

That £4k Anni was £9.5k 2 years ago that was the point I was making.....you sound like you've been around long Enough to remember - same happened with the 20th Anni Mk3.

Got a hard on for a SL just can't get rid of it!!!!!!  :ashamed:

The SL is a hell allot of car for the money, Ive flirted with the idea a few times.

Been around long enough but im the second owner of my mk1 it wasnt me p/xing a capri.

The option list does determine the mk5 value. Mines CW, very hard to source a few year back, now every gti/ed35 one is white. Thinking silver could be the new white

The ed30 is becoming the mrs car so thinking the b5 rs4 stoppers could be overkill, know anyone interested Dave? They where a revelation compared to the standard stoppers.

Good luck on the mk5 hunt Steve

Cheers fellas gonna be a matter of checking here, autotrader and eBay for a few weeks and waiting for the right one then I reckon. Btw what would you recommend a higher milage but newer car or an older one but newer milage?

Cheers

For me this would depend on your milage. If you do a lot of miles then get a low milage older car, If you don't do many miles you can afford a newer car with more miles, maybe an ED30.
