Detail My Ride - Wigit's Carbon Grey Edition 35
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:34:48 pm »
Hi Chaps,

After looking stunning on the Revo stand at GTI International this year Andy asked us to give the car a once over and lay down some much needed protection. We also had the unenviable task of notifying Andy of his first car park dent in one of his doors,  :fighting: which of course we dealt with while the car was with us!

Here's how the car looked on arrival at HQ:

First up, wash and decontamination! Wheels cleaned with AS Smart Wheels, and various brushes inc. wheel woolies, Arches/Tyres with AS G101.

Car was then given a pre-wash, badges/rubbers etc agitated with G101:

Following a 2BM wash with Auto Finesse Lather and Lambswool Mitts, decontamination with Iron X and Tardis revealed little in the way of any contamination!

Once pulled inside and dried off with microfibre towels, the only areas requiring any real correction were the black gloss trim and rear lights, which were tidied up with Meguiars D300 Correction Compound and Pads, before later being refined (pics pre-refinement)

Exhausts also cleaned up:

Paintwork was then cleansed with Lime Prime via DA, before applying Auto Finesse Tough Coat as the LSP to paintwork and wheels. Finishing touches including glass, tyres etc were completed and the interior detailed.

Please note in some of the pics tyres had second coat of Swissvax Pneu to the tyres, and had not been buffed so some excess is visible!

Finished pics:

Thanks for looking, comments/questions etc welcome! More on the way!

Nathan & Gaz

Awesome finish. Car looks mean.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Smart wheels is certainly my next cleaner when the Bilberry runs out.

I never really got on with Bilberry to be honest Rich so I'd say yes. Plus the AG stuff is far better value for money and has never failed to shift anything we ask it to!  :happy2:

How often do you guys use Bilberry/AS Smart Wheels? They both strip wax right?

I tend to use Bilberry only as a pre-wax cleaner, so only a few times a year.

Well we tend to use it every time, but the wheels are usually dirty and we always wax and seal afterwards.
