Update RNS-510 Help please!

I've got a 2006 Skoda Octavia vRS with an RNS510/Columbus unit fitted.
I'm planning to upgrade the climate control to the newer FL unit which displays on the RNS screen,
AFAIK, this requires an update of the fw to 2xxx my unit is a version A with fw1004 and v7.2 maps

I don't want to upgrade the CAN gateway so can anybody give me a definitive answer as to which fw I can run without battery drain issues?
I've seen modified fw272x on vwnavi which claims to work but I'm not certain how to download or burn these discs, my computer skills only go as far as forum browsing!

I know there is a tutorial here, but I'm not confident enough in my skills to download and burn the disc correctly!!

If someone can help me by burning the fw I need and posting to me, I'd be prepared to pay whatever to cover the costs and a few pints on top!

I do v8 maps and fw to stop battery drain.

If you want to upgrade ur climatronic unit than u need upgrade your canbus anyway.

you don't need a newer gateway if you want to have climatronic on the screen.
The MK6 panel will work even with an old gateway, the only thing is VAG-Com won't communicate with it.

I fitted a Mk6 panel in VWrascal's car and he has an H gateway

If you want to upgrade the firmware then you may need a gateway depending on what you opt for.
I offer New 7N0 gateways, if you require one

So how you want to read/clear the fault codes on HVAC if VCDS won't communicate with it?

you can't clear the faults.

VW dealer system VAS can't communicate with a MK6 Climate panel when fitted in a Mk5 regardless of gateway version.
VCDS also requires a different label file too

a lot of threads say you need new 3c8 cecm too, why spend on what you don't need

Well I have 3C0 CECM in my and it works with MK6 climatronic panel.
Maybe VAS cant but at least VCDS can.
