3 way speaker upgrade - focal access 165?
« on: July 19, 2012, 08:14:17 pm »
So ive got an alpine PDX2.150 lined up to power the fronts.

I havent yet even installed this but presume the OEM speakers could struggle..

I've been offered some Focal Access 165 for £100. They are only the entry range Focal but has anyone got them and are they better than the standard speakers?

Ideally I'd like the Focal polyglass  or Hertz HSK163

would it be a waste of money going for the Focal Access?

thanks in advance.

Sorry I have nothing informative to add, but I'm another interested in hearing feedback on the Focal Access 3-way speakers. At the minute I have the 'premium' OEM speakers  :popcornsoda:
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Ive got rainbows at the moment.. but will be installing two sets of Focal 3ways (Focal165 A3) in the next few weeks...

Ive had them in a 2011 Ford Focus before running off an Infinity kappa 4 amp and they sound brilliant

Miles better than standard speakers!! Brill sound quality as well as build quality and at that price you cant go wrong

Whereas Rainbows struggle at the top end (Once you really turn them up) the Focal take it with ease and keep on giving!! So good i bought two sets  :happy2:
If you're having Audio problems i feel bad for ya son... I've got 99 problems but Bass aint one!

Are those the Access speakers your talking about. I think they are only about £140 new even.

My friend has a £600 set of rainbows and they sound amazing.

Yeah they're the (entry level if you will) Access range..

Ive been through many sets of comps in my time but always come back to a few brands - Hybrid Audio, DLS, Hertz, Focal And rainbow...

What power were you running through the Rainbows mate? Are they a good upgrade from stock speakers? If so when you change to the Focals will you be selling the Rainbows???

I've got a 4ch amp sat in the wardrobe doing nothing.
I'd love to use it in the golf to power some tasty speakers  :happy2:

.....one day.  :innocent:

I think the focal A1 work on the rear although I have no plan to upgrade or amp my rears as I want the sound stage moved forwards. So im just going to run the rears off the headunit.

My friend has this set up (all be it with rainbow speakers) and it sounds amazing.
