Bought an RCD510 Now what!
« on: July 12, 2012, 10:39:15 am »
Hi everyone,

bought myself an RCD510, I have a MK5 GTi I've read on here I will need a new CANBUS gateway? Where can I get one of these from and can I fit it myself or will it need to be coded?

Thanks

Jamie

Depends on what year the car is. If it's a 2007MY or later you could be OK.

Probably will require an upgrade then. As for coding, the gateway needs doing, but the radio is a straight swap. Good luck with the swap, I've heard it's a right pig to do!

The swap actually looks fairly easy once you know how! I'm just worried about fitting it and coming out to a dead battery lol.

Yes the HU swap is pretty straight forward. The CANBUS swap is a bit more tricky. Changed mine when I got my RNS510 but I was just watching.

It needs to be swaped over and coded with VCDS. Maybe check if there a forum member near you who is will to help you swap/code.

P.S. I got my CANBUS gateway from ebay.de (half the price comapred to the stealers) but cant find the link right now.
