Tyre wear, inner and outer edges.

What does it mean if both rear tyres have tread as follows:

Outer:   Middle:    Inner:
7mm     8mm       7mm

Does it mean they need to be inflated a bit more? (Currently 37psi).

The wear would indicate UNDER inflation ...

Sounds like  a fraction under inflation mandy... but 37PSI is correct!  :confused:

I would expect some variation over the width of the tyre.

Thanks, I thought it meant that,

It's not on my golf but my bf's, maybe he should try 39psi on the rears?

.... i wouldnt do that. More air in rear tyres = potentially less grip = into a tree backwards  :signLOL:

What tyres are they mandy?

Inside the fuel cover is a sticker with tyre pressure on it - For a standard Mk5 GTI its 2.40 bar = 35 psi without passengers/load

Ahh.... Falkens are awful and in my experience they wear badly and unevenly. Leave the pressure as stated in the fuel cap (as apollo said)

Yes, i would say its the falkens.

I currently have falken FK425's  :ashamed: and have been getting more wear on the edges than i should. and not down to alignment as this has been done twice in the last year due to suspension mods.

It's because the tyre wall is soft and it deforms and scrubs at the edges on cornering, rather than using the whole footprint. sh*t tyre basically.

So is it worth inflating it up to 39psi or just leave it as it is?

It's funny. This is the only forum where you can slate falken tyres and not get shot down for being a hater. :-)

Id leave the pressure as is Mandy you don't want over inflation. Just hope they wear down fast, then replace with decent tyres.
