Selling the Gti, quick question......
« on: July 27, 2012, 02:08:36 pm »
Hi all,

Car will be going up for sale in the next week or so.  Is it ok to advertise the car stating that there is outstanding finance which the purchase will cover?  I know its illegal to sell a car which technically is not mine.

For example the car is up for sale for £6,800 and this is the current settlement figure so the buyer would just pay that directly.

If this is not ok how would I go about selling it private?

Cheers,

Greg

Mate I have sold many cars like this with no problem buyer can just pay the finance company direct just make sure you call them first and explain what you are doing.

Exactly what he said... pre warn the finance company and ask whether they can accept payment over phone, get him to call up when he comes to collect and make sure they are happy for you to let car go before hanging up the phone... limits the days of sale as they need to be open of course...

Upfront and honest is the way, and no one should have a problem.

I sold a Polo 2006 plate last year with 8000 on the clock  and 1 owner from new. Had finance left on it, buyer came and we called up, paid it off, and then she transferred the rest from iPad into my bank and drove off in the motor.

I would put the sale price a little higher than the finance settlement as everyone likes to haggle!

And be upfront in the ad as you don't want someone emptying there savings account before coming to see the car to find out they would have to pay for it with there debit card
