Light scratches
« on: July 29, 2012, 03:07:37 pm »
Hello,

I need a bit of advice which is probably a very easy question for someone on here.
My missus has a mk 5 golf with some light scratches on a couple of panels, now they don't seem to deep but after I waxed the car on the weekend they really stand out.
Can anyone recommend a coloured wax or polish that will effectively camouflage the scratch?
The car is a pearl blue I think.

Thanks

If they are very light scratches then Autoglym SRP will help to mask them with several coats. However remember this is not a permanent fix so you would either need to polish again a couple of months later or remove them with a DA

Thanks for reply, I have been using AG SRP but the white of the polish fills the groove of the scratch and makes it stand out, maybe its a bit deeper than I
thought.

I always thought that maybe there is a good polish/wax that is of similar colour(blue in my case)that will fill the groove and hide it as opposed to make it stand out?

Meguiars Scratch-X is what I currently use on most of the light scratches on my car. I also use Ultra Deep Shine polish by Auto Glym aswell. My car always looks amazingly clean with that stuff :)

Really, as mentioned, if you want a permanent fix, you'd have to machine polish it!

When you say the scratches aren't deep, how deep are we talking? The standard finger nail test should let you know what the script is with them. If you can catch the scratch with your fingernail its a respray. Otherwise, as has been suggested a polish with good filling ability such as AG SRP, AutoFinesse Tripple, Prima Amigo would help mask them, but again as mentioned already you would have to repeat this process. Only way to permanently remove them is either with DA or rotary and compound. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys!

I have just popped out to try the finger test (I have never heard of that before but it makes sense!)

my nail does not catch although it does make a noise when it crosses the scratch :surprised:

Ill have a look into all the other waxes and polishs something should work, Ill look into a machine polisher as well i think that will probable do it tbh.

Thanks to both of you  :happy2:
