MK5 Golf Heated Seat and Lumbar Retrofit Assitance Please
« on: July 31, 2012, 01:13:46 pm »
Hi everyone

Am in process of fitting my MK5 golf with the kufatec wiring harness for the heated seats and lumbar support

My car is a 2007 MK5 Golf GT TDI 170 bhp

It originally had normal cloth Gt interior which was not heated and did not have lumbar.

I have upgraded it to full R32 Leather seats out of the same year car

The new seats are heated an have electric lumbar (lordose)

I have acquired the following for this project:

New heater panel which has the heated seat switches

Kufatec Wiring Loom

VCDS For Coding

I have a few questions and confusions I want to get over before I start this mission!

The Kufatec Wiring instructions which I got with the loom don't seem to be helping much:

Please see below:

Kufatec Instructions

As my car is a 2007 I believe I need to follow the lower half of the instructions

My seats are what I believe are the later ones as they have

4 wires on the driver seat plug and
7 wires on the passenger seat plug

Please see images below:

Drivers Seat

Passenger Seat:

The Kufatec Wiring harness and its instructions has left me a bit confused as it seems to have more wires on the plug which connects to the seat plug.

Both seat plugs seem to have 1 wire extra each which is on pin 9 of the seat plugs which is looped with another wire. Please see images:

Drivers Plug kufatec Loom

Drivers Plug Seat Side

Passenger Plug kufatec Loom Side

Passenger Plug Sear Side

The other problem I have is that all the wires in the kufatec loom are grey and there instructions are for coloured wires.

Please see images:

Earth Wires

Fuse Box Wires and CECM

Climate Control Panel Wires

The Loom also seems to be shorter as it is for a left hand drive vehicle as I understand that kufatec only make it for left hand drive cars so therefore I going to have to extend the wires. This isn't a problem for me.

I just wanted to confirm what wires what if some one can please assist.

The Earth points I was thinking of just fitting on the Passenger side A pillar trim which will save me from extending them. Where as the rest I'll extend.

The live wires are obviously going into the fuse box but which live is for the lumbar and which one is for the the heated???

One says Duperplus on it while the other is plain

I know i can live it of anywhere in the fuse box but i want the fuse points to be in the factory like position.

The live for the heated seats goes into the Fuse Slot 37 30amp Fuse

What Fuse Slot is for the Lumbar and what fuse do I need?

Also what Fuse Slot does the other wire Slot into for the smaller fuse and what size fuse do I need again?

Current Fuse Box Layout

The next part I need to be sure of is the wiring to the climate control panel

There is 2 wires crimped together into 1 pin

Am I right in believing this to be Pin 15 of the climate control panel?

And the other 2 wires to be pin 13 and 12

Any advice and assistance I would be very greatful for

Many thanks

Hi

What I do is fit the kufatec loom as it should be (for a lhd car) and take the control box and loom of the passenger seat and swop with the drivers seat loom. This is better as you don't need to extend the loom.

lumber and main heating go into a permanent live in the fuse box
the feed  for the climate panel goes to a switched live
the 3 wires for the climate panel swop the 2 that are for the seats as the instructions are for lhd

I started a similar thread. I also have r32 seats retrofit with heating and lumbar. I was going to do a write up.
I have figured the wiring but did nother get round to actually doing it.

The loom is made for left hand cars so you need to swap the controller and loom from passenger seat to drivers seat, the loom will then fit correctly.

I'll dig my stuff out when I get home, in the mean time search for my thread as there is some info including a diagram.

I have fitted 2 lots of 2007+ seats and the swopping of the passenger loom with the drivers loom makes it easy

Lumber and Power = Permanent live (look for a spur with RED or RED and Yelllow)

although looking at your fuse box there doesn't look like many pre wired

The one for the climate panel would be a switched live (I would guess that fuse 5) would be ok (black yellow wire)

although check with a multimeter

Thanks for reply Gents

How do I go on about pre wiring the fuse box

And what size fuse is needed for the climate control panel fuse and the lumbar fuse?

How easy is it to swap the boxes over?

Many thanks

Right got bored this evening so ripped the whole car apart

Had a look at swapping controllers on seat but bumped into a problem

Any one know what the blue plug on the passenger seat is for and where it goes?

Please see images

Hi

The blue plug is for the seat belt warning, you will have to take that part out of the loom for the passenger seat if you still want that feature. personally switch it off in the coding and forget about it.

you will have to open up the fusebox and slide the pink part down to insert the terminals.

I think from memory I used a 30A for the seat heating, 20A for lumber and a 5A for the climate

Thanks for the info Eddie

Where would u recommend sourcing a permanent live to the fuse box from as my fuse box does not have the lives pre fed

Would u tap into another wire or is there a live point I can tap off

Many thanks

the problem is the heated seat and lumber will use a lot of current, so to tap into a wire which supplies several other item is not good.
you might need to wire to the engine fusebox to create another permanent live
