My battery lasted fine for seven years and was still going. I only just changed it recently because it felt like it might be giving up and I was about to drive thousands of miles round Europe and didn't want to get stuck. I got a Bosch S5 100 battery for £75 delivered from eurocarparts.com and fitted it myself. It actually exceeds my 05 GTI's original battery spec. It also comes with a 5 year warranty!

If you do order a battery from eurocarparts try discount code TEST31 for 31% off, and it works as I tried it today for some wiper blades got both fronts and rear for £25.

It is considering the VW dealer where I was working today wanted over £40, eurocarparts was cheaper without the code.

The code isn't for everything only certain things

In laymans terms, is there any advantage whatsoever to having a higher amp battery, higher price to 1 side, lol??

AH = amp hours (how long the battery will "give" a certain current voltage)

You can get away with tiny capactities, see http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37547 (look up braille batteries)

CCA, the 480a figure in my post above, relates to starting current, the lower the temperature the more difficult it will be to supply the current to start the car.

I would recommend you stay around this figure with a replacement. But you can save lots of weight by reducing AH (DONT LEAVE LIGHTS ON THOUGH)

My old man used to say that a higher ampage battery improved starting power,he swore blind this was true. Personally buy the best quality you can afford. Sure Bosch has a 4/5 year guarantee
