GTI BATTERY

Hello everybody, need a little advise.

Think my battery is starting to go away and since this is the original, I was curious: What is the usual lifespan for a stock gti battery? i´m confused because my mk5 is one of the last of its kind so its only 3 1/2  years old / 17k on the odometer and it seems a little premature.

Have it properly tested, in the UK visit Halfords for a free test.

Might be changing mine soon, is there just the 1 type, or is there an all singing and dancing super one that, of course, costs more??

I'm looking at a Bosch S6 battery which is fairly pricey, but seems to be very high spec.
Part number is 0 092 S60 080

My original Mk5 GTI battery from Summer 2005 lasted about 5 years. JKM advised that a Volkswagen replacent would be absolutely fine so that's what I did. Not the cheapest battery you could find but buy cheap buy twice plus all the inconvenience. So far so good

AFAIK the VW battery is an AGM type (as is the Bosch S6), hence the price and the quality. I don't know if the VW one is made by Bosch or not though.

You get what you pay for and a better one should last longer and therefore be cheaper in the long run.

You can look at your current battery and get the part number, use this sheet if the label doesnt mention AH & AMPS

Had to replace mine last week on my ED30.

Vw started with 74 AH battery's and fitted 70 ah versions to late cars to save costs. Borderline on the power front so went with a 74ah

Would purchase either a bosch or varta. Got mine from a honda dealership on ebay for £54 delivered, 74ah 096 varta.

Or you could choose to save some weight, nothing simple when it comes to cars...

Some GTI's where fitted with Varta 60 ah / 480A battery ( VW # 1J0 915 105 AC )

In laymans terms, is there any advantage whatsoever to having a higher amp battery, higher price to 1 side, lol??
