I'm gunna wire it with a proper relay for the dimming function as to dim the lights they use a pulse to power them in dimmed form.

The lights will come on with the ignition and dim with the side lights and headlights. I will code out the fogs and use it this way till there is a factory way to do it and I get round to doing a high line dash and MFSW

....As you are Dan The Man who did mine, back in 2009, I guess this is how you did mine? Except mine don't dim.

Perfect as far as I'm concerned - Fit and forget and they're automatically on/off as they should be.

....Aha! So does that mean you could (easily?) now make mine dim or stay on with the sidelights?

I've often thought that I'd like the DRL's left on when the sidelights (OEM are weak fronts) are on.

Now the Olympics are over I could make another visit.

if you could post up bits needed and method of getting these to work id appreciate :)

It is possible todos your drl all it needs is re wiring and a little box of tricks not tried it should work lovely.

Had a play with the Skoda lights yesterday and I need to buy some standard mk5 fogs as the projector fogs on the gti don't take the led unit.

Also the dim function on the drls is just a case of flipping power from pin 1 to pin 3 which I will use a change over relay.

All I need to do now is get the 3 pin plugs (if any one knows the part numbers for repair wires and connectors would be helpful) and make a loom from relay plate to front and modify some fogs.

I raised this issue a few years ago now and then never looked into it any more. Did anyone successfully work this out at all?

I've just installed these on my GT. I decided to go with a 30byte highline CECM at the same time as I wanted cornering lights too. I now have the DRLs enabled and working during the day, when the headlights come on (auto) the fogs switch to cornering lights and I can also override the whole lot and switch the fogs on with the original switch. The only thing I'm not 100% on at the moment is if the CECM has a dimming pin that I can hook into for when the headlights are on but I'm not particularly fussed about it at the moment.

The Skoda units don't fit standard as the mounts are on the opposite side to the VW ones, I swapped the fronts of my original projector units with the Skoda ones and they fit pretty nicely now. I do however need to get some standard Mk5 reflector fogs as the projector lenses have a section blocked where the bulb would be and the reflectors are completely clear.

How do you have them setup? Pin 1 and dimmed mode? or Pin 3 with full brightness?

I have them on pin 3 with ful brightness as I couldn't find a dimming pin on the CECM.

Thanks for the reply  :happy2: Ideally I wanted to keep the fogs enabled but not wanting to run resistors I think I will disable the fogs and install a set of these, then code up to set fogs as DRL's. If you put 12v on pin 1 they are dimmed so they must be controlled by the board inside the lamp units (no PWM signal needed? So it sounds like it would basically need a 12v supply running to this pin when headlamps are on, I would like to have the CECM control this but not managed to find much info to help with that.

With the two brightness levels they are designed to work as follows?.. DRL = full brightness, Headlights = dimmed, Fog = full brightness

Sorry for the late reply to this, been mega busy recently. I don't have resistors on mine as they got stupidly hot when running so I wasn't comfortable with it, I do have a bulb out light on the dash because I'm not running resistors, bit of a trade off I suppose, still looking for a work around for this.

You can leave the fogs enabled and code fogs as DRLs, remember to use USA style with fogs as DRL, took me a while to realise they didn't turn on until you release the handbrake  :signLOL: The DRLs will be on when the headlights are not on, as soon as you turn the headlights on then the DRLs shut off. If you have headlights on and want fogs, just use the switch as usual and it will switch everything on. I've installed a 30byte CECM too so I have fogs as cornering lights coded which shuts one DRL off when turning at certain speeds  :happy2:

Brightness how I have them is 100% DRL, off with headlights, 100% fog. You can code different brightness but I didn't really see any difference and was a little concerned it may change the fog brightness and I want that at 100%. How you describe is how they are meant to work though I believe.

Cheers, I agree about the resistors so I think I'm going to run them with fogs set to disable for now until I can come up with a solution, let me know if you think of anything.
