Car feels sluggish after mot..,
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:21:06 pm »
Hey folks
Had my mot at the weekend just gone , passed with flying colours , except they noted I would need new front tires as they were rather worn , after inspecting myself I discovered this to be true , so I've got fresh rubber up front

Car feels kinda sluggish , doesn't seem to have that urgency it did before it went in.

In addition I don't feel as confident in the brakes , feels like I have to push the pedal a lot to get a response , vw did note that my rear brakes were worn to 70% could this be it ?
As well as noting they can find no history of a break fluid change

Any ideas folks ?

Cheers
John

Do mot testers even lift the bonnet? It is more of a useless inspection than anything else.  It wouldn't have affected your car mate.  :happy2:

Probably more of it being in my head to be honest
Could new front rubber , worn rear brakes and unknown brake fluid change affect performance ? or general feel

Its pretty much around the 25-27 degrees point today , not a welcome change , i prefer the cold myself

Check psi in the front tyres as they are new. You'd hope whoever fit them would inflate them to correct psi but if you check at best it'll rule out a potential problem.

Its more the braking I feel more worried about
feels like I have to press the pedal rather hard to get a response , is this gonna be heat related or should it be a genuine concern ?

May be air trapped in, try pumping the brake pedal with car off until its stiff ! The pedal that is !

The switch on and take a little drive !

Thanks for your suggestion Ree , I'll give that a try in the morning before my short 7 mile commute , hopefully it's nothing to worry about !

Thank you for your suggestion Ree certainly seemed to work , pumped the brakes first thing , there was like a release of air then the pedal firmed up
Drive to work was a lot more confident , felt more like it use too !

Gonna get the rear brakes replaced at weekend and a brake fluid change as a mater of course

Plus being cooler this morning everything felt soooo much better , dunno what I was fretting about lol

....Always put 'fresh rubber' (new tyres) on the back and move your used rubber to the front.
