Do you clean you're pipes......?
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:44:21 am »
Took my son to his cricket match yesterday, parked up at the ground was a black 57 plate Edition 30. Went over to have a quick look and the exhaust tips were as black a charcoal!!! The amount of MKV GTIs that I see like this  :jumping:

:jumping:Don't people get it all they need is a quick wipe when you are washing the car. They look so much better when clean.
My daughter says I have an OCD with clean GTI exhaust tips.

Now where did I put that Autosol.....

Rant over...

^^^^
Not very often: About every third or fourth time I clean the car and I only clean the car when it gets visually quite dirty. One of the reasons I got ceramic coated black exhaust tips was so it was lower maintenance.

My 'silver' tips used to get dirty so quickly it was a royal PITA.

I use a non-abrasive NXT cream by Megs in a purple bottle - I forget what it's called, it's in the boot of my car with quick detailer (used often) and NXT glass cleaner.

Also, having quads I've got twice as many pipes to clean!

I dry mine every time at the end of the wash and give them a quick polish over every 2 or 3 weeks, but as I go to a lot of shows then I have to have them sparkling.
I use the auto finesse chrome polish, even better than the autosol that I used to use.

Me too, being sad means you don't ever really need to bother with metal polish or any products...................but I actually do that as well  :signLOL:

I do mine when I wash the car. Only wipe them over though. Haven't found the need yet to use ny polish. They do get really really bad. Mapped diesel with no remap means chrome doesn't stay chrome for long

I've cleaned them a couple of times but i'm not obsessed, unlike with the rest of the car. Probably due to the fact that they never come up as sparkly as i'd like and they seem to be a tad 'pitted' in areas or a bit like the skin of an orange rather than a baby's botty. I'm blaming it on 28k miles of neglect from the previous owners  :fighting:

x3     it annoys the hell out of my wife when I get out of the car, open up the boot, get out the micro fibre and clean off any residue that's built up in a day!! Always use Autosol, when giving the car a good clean, use 0000 ultra fine wire wool, then micro fibre, looks very shiny when finished, OCD me thinks.

BTW, those ceramics tips on your car look great Robin.  :happy2:

....Thanks for the compliment!  :drinking:

Having quads (a bit OTT) they look much better for being far less obvious in black - Dare I say 'stealth' (hardly my character). When I do clean them they come up a deep satin black finish. Slash-cut tips helps them to 'hide' as well.

I always take care looking after the pipes, keeping them shiny. The previous owner did a great job on mine being cleaned all the time, it would be a sin not to continue the care  :happy2:

Can the exhaust tips be easily removed and replaced or are they welded on?

^^^^ depends which system you have, some Miltek ones are removable. Not sure why, think its so that they can be adjusted backwards and forwards. Someone will be along to correct me if wrong.
