Changed all my bulbs for SuperWhite LEDs

Im not sure if the GTIs have that light in the centre, i thought that too... I have checked a few other GTI's 2007, 2008, just incase it was my model 2006, ...

Hmmm, I'll get a picture of it in the morning so folk's can see what they might have. Here's a wee snap of how the car looks like now:



Or it would if I didn't blow the micro little 7.5amp fuse by shorting out the glove box light. I managed to close the circuit with the metal housing and bye bye interior lights. :-( looks like I'll be stopping in at my local VW or motor factor tomorrow morning. :-S

Okay, so I've fitted all my new LED's (except the reg plate 36mm CAN-BUS Festoons as I already have these) but I think I'm one bulbs short.

The list from the first page says:

*1Pk of 2 --- 6SMD 36mm Festoon LED's --- Numberplate. (Canbus error free).

Spare. Not used for number plate.

*1Pk of 2 --- 6SMD 36mm Festoon LED's --- Sun Visor.

I used.

*1Pk of 2 --- 8SMD 42mm Festoon LED's --- Boot. (Only 1 needed but comes in 2pk)

I used one for the boot. ONE SPARE

*3Pks of 2 --- 5SMD 501 W5W LED's --- Front Map 2. Rear 3. Glovebox 1.

Correct also. All bulbs used.

*1Pk of 2 --- 8SMD 501 W5W LED's --- Footwell. (Canbus error free).

Used as well.

However there's a 36mm festoon bulb in the centre of the front map. I had a spare couple of CAN-BUS 36mm's but thought I had a full kit?  

I'm not dissing Matt in anyway. The LEDs are fantastic and he posted them super fast. Thanks for that mate, much appreciated. Anybody else found themselves a bulb short?

Me and Matt just worked out the kit for my 2007 Ed30 GTi. Mine only has 2 LEDs in the front map light.

You've got 2x 36mm canbus festoons spare that was meant for the number plate, so one of those should fit in the front map light.


That photo looks Great Dodds    You can see just how white they are against the orange glow outside.  




I've edited the list to inform people that they need to check their car for the extra 36mm festoon.

Is it all GT-TDI's do you know?

Im not sure mate.

Just go round all the bulbs and check which type they are. They will be either,

Capless wedge bulbs (CWB)….



or Festoon bulbs (FB)….





The Festoons on the Gti are all 36mm apart from the one in the Boot which is 42mm.

If yours are the same as the Gti there should be…

2 in the Front Map light (CWB)
3 in the Rear Map light (CWB)
2 in the Footwell lights (CWB)-Canbus.
1 in the Glovebox light (CWB)
2 in the Sun visor lights (FB)
1 in the Boot light (FB)
2 in the Numberplate lights (FB)-Canbus.


Let me know what type each bulb is and we can go from there.

Just fitted a set of these LED's to mine the other day.. The lighting now at night is amazing, and with the wife demonstrating, picture was taken with no flash to show how it looks..

Yeah mine does too. 4 quick flashes when you turn the key in the ignition. I tried to get a video of it last night but the flashes are too quick for the iPhone. :-S

Yes mine give a flicker, what causes that to happen?

maybe just a surge when you turn it on.  it may not of been enough power to set the regular bulbs off, but as LEDs use less power it maybe just enough to set them off? just a guess

i have 3 light front map to on my early GTI, i was one bulb short but just left the glove box one regular.
