Ceramic paint for exhaust?

As above.

I want to get my exhaust coated black (like uncle robins). Is there anything you can buy off the shelf to do this or is it a professional job only?

 Ive used Rustoleum (not ceramic) before with very good results.  
 iirc its called hat paint?? and costs about a tenner for 500ml

A pic of 'Uncle Robin's ceramic coated tips for reference:



These are factory coated as supplied by Milltek. I'm not sure if they are an offered option.

Ceramic coatings are very easy to clean with a non-abrasive cream (I use Megs NXT) and also the tips are cold to the touch even after a long spirited drive of several hundred miles.

I don't know about how successfully a ceramic paint can be applied - In ignorance I would imagine the ceramic coated to be done under heat.

Seach plasma coatings on google.  Ceramic coating isnt usually smooth but an abrasive surface.

Hycote do a very high temp paint that should last well on the tips.

....Mine is most definitely very smooth (no texture whatsoever) and satin finish - Neither matt nor gloss. I'll be talking to Milltek soon-ish and I'll try to remember to ask for more info.

Previous to this I was testing a black powdercoated finish for them and it grey'd up quite badly in the winter conditions, so we decided to try the ceramic and it is now in it's third year.

I'll look into it. I'm getting bored polishing my exhaust and it getting sooted up after 2 miles.

It's done by Camcoat in warrington.
'57' varieties of colour available, we've used satin and gloss both are excellent options.

I take it they have to remove the exhaust for this and it's not just sprayed on from a can :laugh:

Would there be any benefit to having a DP coated in it before installation Nige?

Nope! all you have to do is switch the engine off, a guy lies down underneath and applies a coat. You then switch the engine back on to dry the coat and repeat the process.  :innocent:

Would it not be quicker if you had the engine running all the time so it dries on contact, therefore speeding the process up?  :happy2:
