Which Sat Nav system to choose out of these?
« on: July 27, 2012, 05:02:15 pm »
Hello all,

First post here, been on another forum for a while and just wanted some advise. I have a Golf GT TDI 140 58 plate and it's got the standard radio, RCD300 I believe? Installed.

I want to upgrade this unit to something that has Sat Nav, Syncs with my Phone for calls etc and allows me to play music via ipod/iphone. Other things are a bonus.

So I think i've narrowed it down to these few:

http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/archive/AVIC-F9110BT/index.html

Or

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261073548706?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Or

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-AVIC-F9210BT-VW-Skoda-Seat-sat-nav-Bluetooth-SD-DVD-navigation-RNS-510-/271014159151?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f19b3e32f

The prices seem to vary greatly! If anyone has any other opinions then please go ahead and suggest them! I'm looking to buy one today! I can get the F9110BT for £300, are the others really worth £200 more than this one?

Cheers,  :driver:

Cheers mate, yeah looking at it the screen is just so much bigger on the RNS models. Worth it to go for the F-H versions?

Just out of curiosity and for/against perspective. What are the reasons why you guys say to go for the RNS over the others?

Another vote for the RNS 510.

Seamless OEM integration for one. Has a hard drive to store all your music on, and you can use the Bluetooth from the unit screen. You can also add reverse camera at a later stage and or OPS which shows up on the screen. The Nav itself is right up there. Been using it for months now and it's never gone astray. The traffic warnings are also a real help.

Cheers for the advice mate. I was under the impression that to use Bluetooth i'll be needing to buy a bluetooth module and microphone for an extra £100, or am I wrong? Also what's the best way to get these things set up with an Aux in for the iPhone? Can it be linked with a cable or am I going to need one of these:

Cheers guys,

Oh and lastly is £550 for a used version H good?

Correct, you will need to buy the BT module and mic, you can get them in a set for a decent price. Works really well and very clear. You don't even know it's there.

As for the Iphone, yes you can connect it using the item in the link you provided. I don't bother as once you have the BT module, you can stream music from your phone via BT. I also loaded up almost all my music onto the HDD, so no need for the MDI.

Not sure of prices nowadays, but I paid around £600 for my F about 5 or 6 months ago.

Cheers mate, great help. Now I just need to justify spending 3/4 of a grand on my stereo.    :drinking:

Will these 2 pieces of kit do the bluetooth job?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SKODA-ORIGINAL-BLUETOOTH-VOICE-CONTROL-MICROPHONE-MIC-GOLF-PASSAT-POLO-EOS-/271014785956?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f19bd73a4

So that's £550 for the RNS510, £120 for the iPod connectivity and £100 for the Bluetooth kit  :scared:

You would still need the wiring harness for the BT kit.

You would be best off buying a complete set like this which comes with everything you need. All you would need then is coding of the RNS and the BT unit.

I have the older version of this kit, ending in D. This is the same, but has the newer firmware.

I've had RNS's in my last 4 cars. Well worth it and they just keep evolving.  :happy2:

49 Euros! I'm gonna need to take a loan out at this rate!

Thanks for the help though guys, I hope this thing lives up to it's value!  :signLOL:

I was wanting to get a rear view camera set up with it at some point but that will definitely be another time and another pay day now!

I thought i'd be clever and time this with my service, which happens to be the very fun 4 year service so keep your eyes peeled on the For Sale section of the forum as my house will be up there to pay for my Sat Navigation.
