RNS510 Maps / Postcode search

I have a version `b` RNS510 unit with V7 maps, now there seems to be conflicting stories regarding firmware to enable V8 maps.
I`ve no idea of what firmware I have as holding down the setup button doesn`t show it. I have searched for info. and read that I can just install V8 maps and all will be fine and also read that a firmware update would also be required. The car is `06 with the original canbus and I have no battery drain issues.

My main issue is that I want the latest maps so I gain the full postcode search as the postcode search I have is next to useless, infact it is usless as I`m back to using a 6 year old Garmin which is so much better. The RNS510 is fine when you need to go to ie. 12 Front St, York, YO2 3.. but most of my searches are for farms and places in the countryside and the darn RNS is taking miles away from where I should be so I really need full postcode search.

So can someone confirm would installing the latest V8 maps give me full postcode search whatever firmware I have or is a certain firmware required?

V8 maps would give you 7 digit postcode search. But you would need a certain minimum fw version as well.

Try the modified 2760 which will prevent battery drain.

For 7 digit search you need:

268x or higher firmware AND V7 or higher maps

I have B version running 4020 firmware with V8 maps. I had it for 2 weeks now, no issues so far.

You`ve just verified what I though, I`ll need a newer firmware.

I was just hoping to get away with the easy solution of loading V8 maps, firmware might be a bit beyond my capabilities.

For 7 digit search you need:

Just remember If your currently on a fw lower than 1xxx and you update the maps and then update the fw then it will delete the maps partition.

Which version unit do you have? Also what year car?

If you have a 2008 you may have a newer canbus and you can update to any firmware.

If you have an older canbus you would need modified fw. It's on that page I posted. How come you can't download from there?

There should be a sticker on top of the unit stating the part number.

If you don't have access to it then you could activate the secret menu using vcds and hold setup button for 10 seconds and that will give you all the info you need.
