What did you change in the end, did you do a flush . What sort of time was taken to do the repair? Thanks

Breakdown of the labour and parts....

Inspection/diagnosis last Saturday,
Supply and fit new compressor,
System vacuum/flush (2hrs),
Pressure test,
Re-gas 525g of refrigerant.
1.8hrs labour @ £25  (mates rates)

£45 labour. It took 5hrs in total, but I was only charged £45  :pomppomp:

£65 for the gas  :pomppomp:

£180 for the new compressor (12 mth warranty)  :pomppomp:

£290 total cost.  :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

....I wonder how much VW would have charged?  :scared:

Thank god for Independant Specialist like VagAutoCare  :notworthy:

Not good news for me....  :sad1:

Can't believe my compressor would literally blow a hole in its casing  :surprised:

I've seen this before I would guess that some Guys don't refill the oil when the cars are gassed at the A/C shop
The compressor is a little engine really it needs oil and servicing, if it's starved then this happens
Remember this things runs at engine speed all the time they are clutchless by design

Do you do AC work?

My AC is intermittent.

Sometimes icy cold sometimes warm. I do get a fault code (can't remember it off the top of my head) but my dealer didn't recognise it.

I "think" it's the actuator valve on the side of the AC pump???

Sorry monte for my query, but it is relevant to bust AC and it could maybe help others in the future.

Yes, it could be the control valve that's bust, you need the code really, I have some with bad connections and some that the valve is cracked on if the cars had a little nose bleed at some point
They do also just stick and can't pop the door open to let the gas flow
You could try to fix it but it'll prob re-appear so best get another pump if you want it 100%
I don't think the valve can be bought on its own could be wrong though

Fault code is;

00898 - Control Circuit A/C Compressor
010 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent

Either the valve is broken on the plug end by impact (or plug itself) or the Pumps fuxxed bro !
I'd guess the latter , it's an easy power test job to determine, just pop the plug and test for power when the AC plays up next you can get to it from the top easy enough, if there's power but an inop pump then then it's the obvious
