HID kit
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:34:18 pm »
Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you's have bought a HID kit recently and could recommend a decent one to me ? Ive looked on eBay but some say additional kit is needed etc The price difference is all over the place also. I would obv like to save money but i don't want them to nack up within a month then for me to replace..

Any help would be great

Thanks

I thought on the basis of HID bulbs being put into projector housing and being alligned lower, they'd be fine?

Bear in mind that the GTI does not come with projector headlamps standard... if you have the standard headlights with halogen bulbs, you'll need (for example) 'R' rated HID bulbs (i.e. H7R) so that you can achieve the correct beam pattern in order to get the best light output and not blind oncoming drivers!  :happy2:

Erhhh noo... Using factory xenons set on the lower side without auto levellers is ok. Using halogen housings with HID's is NOT, and hopefully soon outlawed by the inspectorate.

Are aftermarket projector housings for the MK5 as good as rubbish then if you fit HID kit into them? It's only OEM Xenon headlamps that will operate correctly without auto leveling?

If you mix lamps and fit HID's, the light patterns are not correct when tested by an MOT test centre. Thus potentially blinding the poor oncoming motorist.

Xenon headlamps are the ones to use .If set on the lower side on height adjustment, in case your carrying a heavy load will insure you don't blind anyone as the light direction would be aiming high if your carrying 4 or 5 people or a boot full.

You must also insure if you have swopped your halogens for xenons, that you also remove the levelling switch from the halogens from the dashboard as that can be seen as "inoperative"and a potential failure. Easy replaced with a new switch fitted from cars fitted from a factory spec.

This is only if you don't want the extra expense of auto levellers /washers of nearly £400.
