So how much is my GTI worth then?
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:16:57 pm »
Seen some crazy prices going on some, and some low prices on others, no idea where to place mine.

2005 3 Dr Shadow Blue 55 Plate GTI.
68,000 Miles
Full Service History, all VW Dealer bar the last one, which was independent.
9 Months MOT
5 Months Tax
x2 Keys
Recent New turbo.
RCD 300 MP3.
Connects2 iPod connection.
Cruise Control
17" Monza 2 Alloys all with 3mm+ tread.
I'm the 3rd Owner
HPI Clear

No idea what to put it up at when I get it on piston heads this week. I'm thinking around £7000?

Sorry chap, but if this thread turns into a  for sale thread like all the others that we get, then it will be have to be removed. It is acceptable how it is at the moment, but if you start adding updates each day like " why is it not selling, is it my fluffy dice", then it will have to be removed.  :happy2:

You may think it is unfair, but we get lots of inventive creative people and a similar amount who complain about them.

Go on eBay search for the same car, look at completed listings this will give you an idea as to what the market price is at the moment.

Obviously look at a car as close to yours as possible, remember any mods you have done may not be interesting to the buyer so sometimes will not nec boost your price.

A well laid out advert on any site will give your car the best chance to sell, poor description etc will put buyers off. Ensure your pics are high quality and show all sides of the car.  Has your cambelt been changed? For 7k I would expect detailed service history inc belt changes and receipts for the work inc the Turbo replacement.

www.webuyanycar.com

 :happy2:

yep love them or hate them its a starting point, it can only increase from the value they quote.

http://www.thecarpeople.co.uk/part-ex-calculator/index.htm

Yeah it's not actually for sale yet, I'm just kind of wondering what to start it at. Webuyanycar offered me £5500 for it, which I thinks crazy, it's worth at least £6500 in my eyes.

It does have all receipts yeah, and cambelt was done at VW so is confirmed over the phone etc. I guess I will have to do some more research, as I think shadow blue 3 door always has a little more appear as it's a colour a lot of people love over a grey or black.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll d some more digging and then get an advert up in the for sale in a few days or so.

I've got a deposit on my next car already that a lad is holding for me......  :drinking:

In your eyes may not nec be the same vision as a buyer

Try and get documented evidence from VW about your cambelt change - This will give the buyer nothing to haggle over!!

Whats your new car?

Good advise, thanks, may go to VW and see if they will send something in writing.

Cambelt is due next year, for the 4 year mark, so that might put some off also. Have to see.

My new car......is an R32 :)

I paid £6200 for my 55 plate with 38k miles, leather, Mfsw, highline dash in may, I took the car to my mates garage when I got it home and he couldn't find a single fault with the car.

As said before it's only worth what someone is willing to pay

I looked at a 05 plate with 80k miles and no options before I looked at my one and they were asking £8k I shown them the ad for the one I bought and offerd £6k, they told me there was no way they would sell for that as they paid £10k last year from a dealer, that car is still up for sale and the price has been dropped to £5500 Ono

We buy any car won't even honour the price the offer on there site they will knock money off for every scratch dent etc and if you have done more than 50 miles after you get the quote it won't be valid either

Wow, madness, I know a lot of people think it's worth more than it actually is, I've seen some super specd ones on here doing for 6/6.5. And then some traded in for 7! Just seems to be little consistency and very much the buyers taste.

I'd be happy if I get what I paid for it, having only owned it for 3 months!

There was 3 traders asking £10k for 05 plates at the time I was looking and they all sold, but private buyers can't trade in or get finance.

I hope I didnt sound harsh but that's just my experience, I was willing to pay up to £9k at the time or £12k from a dealer if I was trading in my old car but when I seen some pop up for much less money I just had to have a look.

Gumtree is free to post an ad so there is no harm in putting an ad in for £7k Ono at the moment and if it doesn't sell make sure you delete that ad and post a new one with a lower price (just be prepared for people offering you swaps or px's)

I bought a BMW 330ci a few months before our fuel prices rocketed and ended up losing £4k in 6 months of owning it (my circumstances changed and I couldn't justify £160 a week to fuel it)

No, not at all that's great. I know we always think we can get more, for cars, houses, electrical goods etc. Will get some confirmation of the cambelt from VW and then will set up a few ads ;)

Thanks for the input, I've been having a look on Trader, PH and Ebay etc and I think I'll be putting it on for £6,800 and go from there.

I've been looking for a new car for ages, it has to be said Gof Mk5s as a Marque ( certainly not yours specifically) are not good value when you consider what else is out there.

That said they are what they are and they hold their own, or they did up until recently.

We need to remember its a 7 year old car now and the early ones are clocking up the miles too.

Notwithstanding compared to other cars they aren't good VFM people are always tempted back to them, the only reason I havent bought a SL350 or a last shape M5 is the fact that the right mk5 hasn't come along without forum added tax.

Good luck with your sale, there's a lot of mk5s that soon find themselves on page 3 due to ambitious pricing then the relentless BUMPs start to happen and it spoils the ads impact imvho.

Do your research which should result in a result and enjoy the R32
