Warning Lights - Getting P***ed Off NOW!!
« on: July 30, 2012, 02:12:51 pm »
Just had the wife call me to say 4 warning lights where on.

1. Red Steering Wheel - Turns Orange when car starts.
2. Car symbol with skid marks........now know this is also ESP.
3. Half Circle Symbol with lightning type marks exclamation mark and something coming out the bottom.........now know this is tyre pressure sensor!!
4. ESP illuminated 'OFF'.

We jump started a friends car at the weekend, now found out this can cause problems......she drove the car to work and the only light left on now is the ESP 'OFF' and the skid marked car symbol.

Will this go off without needing to be reset?
Is she doing something wrong to stop the word 'OFF' illuminating....i.e. does she need to hold the button down for x amount of time?

Apologies I work away and cannot get home till Thursday PM.

All the lights cam back on today, wife called the AA who told her it's to do witht he drivers side front wheel - He reckons the tyre has not got a tyre pressure sensor and this is causing the lights to come on?

Ideas please?

We don't get an internal tyre pressure sensor with our cars so that's rubbish...

Without knowing the exact fault found being logged we can only speculate, but my guess would be an ABS sensor or it's wiring  :happy2:

Defoe abs sensor or wiring to it.had a nice mate chop through mine when changing springs (don't ask)had all lights mentioned come on.next day had sensor wire soldered back up and soon as took it for drive all lights went out.faults were still stored though so had them cleared. :happy2:

I've had the same problem with my 55plate. Happened after I left it for 2 weeks when I went offshore, came back and the lights were coming and going and put it down to a bit of dirt on a sensor or something. The lights kept reappearing until they were on all the time, took it to the garage and it fired up an intermittent fault with a wheel bearing sensor. Replaced that (110 quid fitted or something) and that solved the problem.

Since then I've left the car again and the lights are now on all the time. I've not found a problem driving it tbh, but all the same I'm going to get all the sensors checked next time its in. I did a bit of digging around the forum's for common faults that would throw up these lights and most of the time it was wheel bearing sensors, although there was reports of it being a faulty ABS pump to blame. I'm going to renew my warranty just in case before putting it back in!!

Its going in tomorrow to a garage (Motatalk Havant) that the warranty company have told me to use, NOT a VAG specialist but I have spoken to the guy on the phone and he sounds clued up - He has VCDS and seems to know what he is talking about.

We will see what fault codes come up.

Good luck and hope it's a cheap fix...

Re: Warning Lights - Sorted But Advice on VCDS Needed

Tyre valve leaking kept causing the tyre pressure warning to come on - Other 2 lights where on due to jump starting another vehicle.....is this possible?

Also the garage are telling me that the slight misfire i reported on acceleration is not showing any faults...surely they can drive it with VCDS plugged in and record it?

'Dealer' Just went out to test the car for my reported misfire only to find the warning lights back on again!!

Question - Will the Steering Angle Sensor Calibration need to be redone of I jump started another car from the Golf....??

Is it likely to be the cause of the Steering wheel and ESP warning lights coming on??

I would be tempted to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and see if that clears the errors.

The car is with the so called 'Dealer' who to be honest have been a nightmare, they sent it to an independent who at first I thought was quite good but it seems I jumped the gun!

They have now removed the 3rd part immobilser and sent it back for diagnostic checks on VCDS to see if this was the problem, I have told them it may need the Steering Angle Calibrating but this is falling on deaf ears.  Once they get back to me I will know more, I am annoyed that the independent will not speak to me on the phone as I want to know what fault codes he cleared the other day. It is obvious he didnt actually investigate why the codes wher etheir in the first place as the warning lights just came back on.
