Cambelt & Waterpump in the North West
« on: August 04, 2012, 06:40:39 pm »
Hi all,

My car is due ( well, overdue  :surprised:) a cam belt change.

I want to get the water pump and the engine mount bolt done at the same time. After reading all the scare stories about vw garages making serious mistakes I'd rather go to to a trustworthy independent specialist (should be chapter than VW's fixed price scheme at a guess)

Any suggestions for North West / cheshire area?

IIRC Awesome GTI quoted £380ish

Cheers,

Graeme

Can't really comment on locations, but £380 on face value doesn't seem too unreasonable. Whilst the cambelt change is technically pretty simple, it is a faff.

Took me a morning to do mine on the driveway, so probably a couple of hours in a decent workshop. Parts (inc pump) are about £170 from TPS if my memory is correct.

Thanks all for your help  : :notworthy:

I'll give Votex a call on Monday, they are only about 20mins from me  :happy2:

Mike - cheers for your suggestion but it will cost me most of a tank of fuel to get there so may not be worthwhile  :sad1:
