Detail My Ride - Jerez Black BMW M3
« on: August 04, 2012, 11:09:44 pm »
Hi Guys,

This 2007 E90 BMW M3 has been previously detailed by us around 12 months ago, the owner contacted us for a re-treatment following a few recent repairs/trips to the bodyshop as the paintwork was not looking its best, which was an understatement to say the least!

We only had a day to turn this detail around, a lot less than we would have liked however we did our best in the time we had to ensure the best results possible. The aim was to thoroughly wash/decontaminate all areas, as well as restore as much gloss/clarity back to the paintwork as possible.

So here we go!

Here's how the car looked on arrival:

The problem was clear to see, even beneath the dirt/grime!

Interior still in fairly good shape however:

First up, a thorough wash and decontamination was in order. Starting out with the wheels:

Pre-rinsed via Kranzle:

AS Smart Wheels 10:1 applied liberally:

Various brushes including wheel woolies, vikan and valet pro used:

AS G101 10:1 and large wheel woolie were used in the arches:

And rinsed:

Once all four wheels/arches were clean, car was pre-soaked and all gaps/badges etc were cleaned using AS G101 10:1 and various brushes:

Now, a 2BM wash with lambswool mitts and Auto Finesse Lather:

De-contamination was carried out using Iron X, AS Tardis and the paintwork was also clayed to little avail, very little contamination was removed evidence of the owners frequent washing.

The wheels were the only real area with any purple rain to report!

Wash and decontamination complete, time to head inside:

Once inside, and the car was dried off with microfibre towels it was very clear to see the reason for the lack of gloss/clarity in the finish:

After a few test trials, I settled on using a combo of Scholl S17+ with a 3M Yellow Polishing Pad via Chicago CP-8210 at around 1500-1800rpm this was delivering the desired results with some areas requiring 1-2 hits to ensure a decent level of correction achieved. Again, bear on mind we were not looking to
achieve perfection, just to give a decent level of correction to restore gloss/clarity.

A few correction shots including 50/50:

Before:

After:

Lower doors:

Bootlid was very badly scratched:

After:

Difference was clear to see in natural light!

Working around the car:

Drivers door in natural light, before:

After:

Following the above correction, the finish was refined using Dodo Juice Lime Prime, again via 3M Yellow Polishing Pad via CP-8210 at around 1500rpm. LSP of choice chosen was Auto Finesse Tough Coat to ensure maximum durability for the client to maintain.

Once the paintwork was complete, the wheels were sealed with Auto Finesse Mint Rims, and tyres dressed with Auto Finesse Satin. Glass cleaned, gaps etc dusted and interior was also given a quick detail.

Finished results, including a few pics in the low evening sun:

Thanks for looking!
