Vibrating steering wheel
« on: August 05, 2012, 02:24:30 am »
My steering wheel vibrates when going over 80mph(private road)
Can Anyone point to the right direction to what might the problem be??

2 possible reasons for this could be that your wheels need balancing or wheel bearing

Just had new tires fitted to the car so I assume that the balancing be ok..if it was wheel bearing would it be noisy??

Wheel bearings would make a humming noise.

Have you checked the orientation of the tyre is correct. Normally an arrow Indicating forwards.

Rim might not be straight.

Air pressure too low in tyres.

Does it vibrate more when braking?

If this has started since the change of tyres it could be balancing !

Sometimes it could be a warped brake disc altho that is rare, however that would be more apprant with braking.

Did the vibrating start since new tyres were fitted? 9 times out of 10 when we get cars with these symptoms it's just not been balanced properly.

Get them to rebalance. Sounds like you need to find a new tyre fitter ;-)

Agree!

For the sake of £20 I would get somewhere else to rebalance them and get a receipt to take to the place that fitted the tyres
