Remap and EGR Delete
« on: August 05, 2012, 07:58:47 pm »
Hi

Just a quick couple of questions, If I was to get a remap and EGR delete on my MK5 GT140 would there be a problem when taking it to the dealers for MOT and service ?

I have no warranty but I'm didn't know if their machine to clear service light etc would wipe the remap. And if the EGR Delete would raise any problems.

Thanks Jonathan

I think once it's mapped out they wouldn't know unless they checked your ecu.

Since you're outside warranty it doesn't matter.
Once physically removed and mapped out, I don't think it will cause any problems with servicing, wiping fault codes etc.

I'm going to do the same to my 140. Going to use the darkside egr delete kit.
Gona remove the egr cooler too.

Which kit you going for? I guess it's darkside or allard?

I have no idea which kit to get mate, I had the allard on my MK4. But I can't seem to find any allard kits for MK5. I found a darkside one which I will prob go for. Do you know if they are hard to change ? What's the difference with removing the cooler?

I'm thinking of taking it to R-Tech. But it will be getting serviced at vw as I've got the two year plan with them. Just didn't want to get it remapped and for their to be problems

I have the Darkside EGR delete. Its a nice piece of kit. What you will find though is you will be left with the pipe that comes off the cooler round to the front. I had mine removed when I had the DPF gutted and the bloke who did it said it was a pig to do. Ended up cutting it in 2, half out the front, half out the back.

Once the EGR is removed you can remove the cooler aswell. I didn't do this as when I spoke to Ryan at Darkside he wasn't sure if it was the same set up as the 140. I assume it is but didn't want to take the risk until I knew for sure.

Whoever does your remap for you will have to map out the egr too as it is physically disconnected. If I scan mine with VCDS, it shows a fault for the EGR, but this isn't flagged on the dash as an engine management light. Check my members ride link in my Sig for pics and info for when I fitted my delete pipe.

Do you have to remove the cooler ? It looks like a right pain to do! So its better to remove the EGR before getting it remapped ?

No you don't have to remove it. I think people do because its not needed once the EGR is deleted. I suggest removing it before the remap yes. Saves you making 2 journeys  :happy2:
