Newbie from Newbury
« on: August 05, 2012, 09:33:42 pm »
Evening all!

Quick hello, as a newbie to Mk5 ownership - I bought myself a GT TDI 170 a couple of weeks back after getting sick of chugging along in my T4 Panel Van...

I'm far from new to Volkswagen ownership, having previously owned 2 classic beetles, a Type 181, a Bora, a Mk2 Golf and the T4 van. I am also mid resto on an '82 Beetle... 5 years in the making so far!

I'll dig out some photos too :)

Oh, the bug is pretty low alright...

I was at this stage a few years back:

Here's how it was looking a few months back:

I've now got a bit further, including getting the interior in..

This is a project that I've gone pretty much all out on, in terms of attention to detai., so I won't post too much in these forums about it but the full build can be seen here:

The Golf will get a full detailing over the restr of summer, doing some paintwork correction and protection before winter.

Other than that I plan to pop some coilovers on it and a mild re-map. Possibly some R32 rear lights and the later (dark) headlights.

I'd also like to fit a cruise control stalk and possible the multi-function buttons to the steering wheel. Those are things I'll do as and when though. :)

The project part of it is as much why I do it as getting the cat on the road. I've never built a car so lie spending time working things out and making sure I get it right :)

That said, I'm gagging for it to be done now!

:D

Would love to start some kind of project but dont have the space for it, plus sinking money into 1 car never mind 2 is good enough for me at the moment lol. Keep up the good work!
