Econ, Aircon?
« on: August 07, 2012, 04:36:37 pm »
I appreciate this is probably a stupid question...but im going to blame it on the fact I never got an owners handbook when I brought the car butttt......
Whats ECON? Is it more economical aircon and so when I have it turned off thats when my aircon is actually on? Or does it do something else?
Im in a 56 plate GTI if that makes any difference?

Cheerrrrrsss

AC is on by default and Econ turns it off. Later cars had it revised to state AC instead of ECON.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

While were on this subject.....i used to have the air con on all the time in my other cars when they had a separate air con button. This is what i want to do this time and how do i ensure that the air con is on ? I have the dual temp system with the econ button as mentioned in this thread , i cannot establish what the econ button is for either

As mentioned, the A/C is on as standard the whole time Econ is not switched on. i mostly have mine turned off as A/C fan running saps a bit of power running the fan. one the econ light is illuminated it just like having the normal fans on.

I see, just as I thought.
Does anyone know the difference in MPG over having the AC over the ECON?
