Life After the GTi
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:59:17 pm »
Just wandering what cars people were potentially thinking about purchasing for the next car.
I thought it would be interesting to know.

I'm going for a Mk4 R32 when I sell mine, and then after that, going back up to a A4 TDI Sline, around 07/08 plate. Will probablt keep the A4 for a while then.

I've got no intention of selling my GTI anytime soon, But I regularly find myself drooling over Audi S5's on pistonheads classifieds.

....Going from a Mk4 R32 (V6 sound  :notworthy:) to a diseasal Audi A4 is gonna be horrible. At least, it would be for me. That's a strange path to take.

I've no intention of selling mine but subject to a long test drive, a RS3 or Golf R would be a natural step. But I can't afford either and am still in love with what I've got.

Thinking I might keep my Eddy as a long termer (unless something terminal happens to it) and in a couple of years and "invest" in something like a Westfield as a track basher.

Yes, the R will be on the stand at Harewood. :happy2:  Although I'm well pleased with the R, I am missing the Ed30 a bit, it was rather nice.  :sad1:

The Golf, whether GTI, Ed30, GT, or R version, is a very hard act to follow unless you want/need a car type which is quite different. It's not too big, it seats 4/5, it's reliable and well built, it's fairly fast (whether standard or tuned), it's reasonably economical to run, it has a good load capacity and is more practical for a small family than those who before having the experience of having babies tend to give it credit for (at least as a 5-door).

Jeremy Clarkson was right when he said that the Golf GTI (and its derivatives) was perfect whether for carrying a chest of draws or for doing the school run and then screaming home like a professional rally driver!

A very irritating itch that needs scratching for me too! Saving up for one now for next winter, when I'll put the mark 5 to bed for 6 months. I think it'll feel quite dynamically flawed though, after driving the mk5 GTi, but it'll be awesome in the wet and cold in comparison, especially from the off!
