Stage4 boost issues.
« on: August 13, 2012, 05:50:34 pm »
Had my car at Extreme Motorsport couple weeks back at a rolling road day. My s3 was taken off the rollers as the boost control was manic boosting at 2.2bar. I thought my n75 had packed in so i went and bought myself a Turbosmart Eboost2 installed that with no issues. Left the n75 connected so that no lights were flagged up.

Took the car up to Revo/Falkland performance today for the set up of the controller and the same happened again boosting at 2.3bar. Even when i set the Eboost to 0 it still boosts at maximum?? Boost just seems to be all or nothing completely all over the place. All the logs were good all within tolerance. They thought that my Tial 44mm wastegate had popped a diaphragm so i brought the car home and stripped the wastegate, diaphragm looks perfect absolutely spotless.

Any ideas would be massively appreciated?

Cheers, Stevie.

Not really got any ideas but I bet that's a hoot to drive with that type of boost! Lol.

What are you getting the 2.3 bar of boost signal from, computer or gauge in the car? just with all logs been fine does the car read 2.3 bar via computer or your gauge. If the cars logs looking fine maybe the gauge is faulty??

Turbo is the gtx3076r.

Trick - Signal is both from the vac reading on the gauge and the vagcom logs. Both are reading the same around the 34psi mark.

What did revo say?? Has to be a software fault if all sensors are reading fine?? If not the only way it can be boosting crazy is if there is a sensor giving out duff readings making it boost so much?

They had hoped it was the diaphragm. They were ready to order a new one before i said to wait. I looked fairly closely at it tonight and it looks solid. I dont know where they will go next hoping its an easy fix. What does the DV control? The oem dv is unplugged as i am running the forge supersize.

Not sure if the supersize is made up the same as the other forge fmf 2.0t valve. They dont go by spring color or at least i have never heard of anyone talking about it. Need to ask Alex as he is running it on his Skoda.

I would imagine your using a remote wastegate on the 30/76 set up
If you've taken all the control away from the N75 and added an MBC then it can only be a waste gate issue full stop!
I use a simple MBC  on the Loba car & even with an internal wastegate which has much less fine control than your external it controls the boost perfectly
It's simple really if the Ecu is not controlling the boost by removing the N75 then that rules out everything else
(unless the MBC isn't fitted correctly)

I ahve the Tial in bits right now. I cannot see anything on it. Do i need to plug/bung all "air" holes not in use or leave them open? The car hardly gets used 20mls a week if its lucky, Owens kept going on about the MVR must be water cooled....i google it and it is all over the net that water cooling is for race cars only, extreme use only, long distance racing. The more i hunt the more it keeps bringing me back to the wastegate.

Thank you for the reply. Stevie.

Yes they are W-cooled but only needed in extreme situation (constant 600-700+ hp) I can't see this being the problem but never say never it is a car remember
I would like to think its as simple as this for you, I really can't think it's anything else as you've taken all the control away now, have you tried a simple mechanical BC ?
get the remote checked or swap it out, by the sounds you couldn't really have a better set up than what you have now

Just leave the power plug connected to the N75,
Make sure you have the BC plumbed in the correct way round too   :happy2:

I have not tried a mechanical BC not sure on how i would try this. Both vagcom and eboost are running at same 34psi. I will check the controller again but it seems simple enough and easy to follow instructions. Have you ever seen inside of the Tial? Is the three spring set up normal, could it be the wrong spring?? Why three springs, small, medium and large one over the other?

When they took the boost pipe off the solnoid and blew down it with their mouth i could hear the air pissin out of the wg. thats why i bunged up all the open holes.

Stevie.
