Yeah, I think it is just about fast enough now!  :driver:

Need to turn my attentions to the details in future. :smiley:

just, just, JUST!! Yeh i'll give you that. haha! Just love it, i'd love it against a cocky jap guy in their evo thinking "it's a golf...simply".

Times are wicked aswell! Reminds me of my placement at ford with the STs (which ofcourse are nowhere near as good  :smiley:)

LOL,
I always think relatively. Looking at Guy Hardings beast of a Golf R which does 10.8@128mph, mine is slow!

When I set out with my R project the aim was always to get to 400bhp without losing the lowdown grunt of the K04, whilst getting it to low 12's on the 1/4 mile and sub 4 seconds to 60 and sub 10 seconds to 100mph. Big ticks against all those targets and the only one I'd like to do now is beat my personal best on the Nurburgring. :smiley:
Golf R gone.

Well if you struggle to beat your time you could go balls out and try and beat it with the wheel bolts tightened up.  :signLOL:

Hi John,a shame we couldn't meet up while I was at Stattlers picking up my R(GIAC extreme & Dsg stg3)...maybe next time...my R is good but I do find it always quickly changing up to gear6 when I'm keeping it easy on D mode..is this normal?
Will be going up to Stattlers for the next round of mods in jan-feb(loba 400)so maybe we can meet up

Yes, mine gears up fairly quickly, but not as quickly as the OEM map. Have you tried sport mode. It is probably nearer what you are after. :happy2:

It would be great to meet up next year sometime. :smiley:

Once again a few doubters have been casting doubts on my runs. Here is a downhill version! :laugh:

Not that steep either!

Ok guys,

Been doing some logging today using VCDS to see how the old girl is running and decided to look at the MAF readings.

Not to get too technical, but our cars give a MAF reading in grams per second of air flowing through the intake and as a rule of thumb you can calculate bhp from this reading using either of the following calculations.....

bhp = MAF x 1.25

or

bhp = MAF / 0.8

For example if your standard Golf R has a maximum MAF reading of 215 g/s then the power output is calculated as....

215 / 0.8 = 268.75 bhp      or        215 x 1.25 = 268.75 bhp

now there are several variables that can alter the calculation very slightly (atmospheric pressure, timing pull, running richer or leaner etc), but the calculation shouldn't alter by much more than 2% either way.

Why does this calculation work?......because for every gram of fuel used against 1.25 grams of air used per second creates 1 bhp.

So, my R is making a peak 312 g/s at 7040 rpm with no timing pull, which roughly equates to 390 bhp on normal pump gas with WMI running and in pump mode on the GIAC switchloader. :happy2:

There probably is a way of calculating it on a diesel, but I've not seen it. :laugh:

Need to get there early to get a slot now as only one set of roller is running!

I'm on a piss up birthday do on Saturday in Whitby, so if I'm not there start without me!! :drinking: :grin:
