Hurdy

Liking your transformation of the R.

I'm in the early process of sorting my Edition out. Was considering going stage 2+ with APR's new code when released for my car.....they are still finishing the code off for the Edition 30.

The LOBA kit fitted to your's like a nice package and I suspect it's much cheaper than the APR stage 3 kit.

How much was involved fitting it and what is the rough cost.?

Have you got any links to the dyno plots? I suspect as always with this much oomph 4WD is the way to go as I need all of the hardware for mine yet...ie fuel pump, DP exhaust etc etc.....not cheap but then again 370+ was unheard of a few years ago in a Golf. I was considering a 997 Turbo when at Combe a few weeks ago I had a go in one.....they seriously need to be tied down at the front or a suitable damper set up.....the front was like a cake mixer....wobbling all over the place. The 2 month V12 Vantage was a different story.

I went out in APR's Golf R last year at Combe which is a bit bumpy to say the least...it was so fast into Quarry it seriously needed Aero to hunker it down on track even though it had the VWR suspension set up....we were reaching 145+ terminal speed onto the rise with Keith driving on a damp / dry track....it stopped though. Haldex controller helped as did sticky rubber...lovely bit of kit though. I'm sure your's is similar.

The L0400 should cost under £3k as a conversion to fit and set up over a stage 2+ car.

The R is decent as a base car and there are many modifications you can fit to enhance the power and handling of it.  :happy2:

So with a little more tweakage, setting and playing with the boost controller I decided to have a dyno run on a hub dyno to get some accurate hub/wheel HP. The dyno was a Dynapack, which is the same make/model that APR use to run their Golf R's on in the USA. The figures are at the hub, so basically whp!!!

Even a minimum 10% addition to these figures for drivetrain losses works out at 408+bhp, more realistically would be around 12-15% losses. The run was only done with 99ron and 50/50 water, methanol. The run also only went to 6200rpms and was still gaining power. When Rick tried to alter the dyno to use more rpm's the dyno didn't want to know, so there are a few more whp in the bag yet. For comparison APR stage 3 figures are shown under my graph and are 371whp and 394wlbft compared to my 371whp and 388wlbft.

The AET fan is awesome......it has a proper cell and almost blows you out of the door, in fact you can actually lean into the wind it generates. It eliminates wheel slip as the wheels are removed and the dyno packs are bolted straight to the hubs. :happy2:

You mean that perfectly legal test drive I took you on Steve?  :innocent:

I bought it from Kelly at KDL detailing. He bought an industrial unit along with the contents and it was all carbon and ABS plastic parts for Euro and Jap stuff.

Last time I looked he had a few front lip spoilers in CFO
