Hello there!
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:09:03 pm »
Hi there,

Ime new to all this so take it easy on me

I currently own a mk7 fiesta zetec s but the time has come to get the car i have wanted for many years the GTI ed30. I dont no much about these cars really, been to view a couple to make sure i like them before commiting to selling my current car to buy 1! (wich i do because i have fallen massivley for them! Not really sure on what to look for when viewing them so if anyone has any tips/ common faults or problems to keep an eye out for that would be great. I have also noticed that the spec ime after is hard to come by without driving massive distance to view them, i would like a 3dr in red or black possibly with DSG. Don't want silly millage either 60k tops. Thanks for reading!
Sam

Welcome along Sam.  :drinking:

Am a bit biased, being a Tornado Red 3dr ED30 Owner, but go for it.   :happy2:

Do yourself a "must have spec" list and wait to you find the right one, will be worth the wait. Yes you will have to travel, but if your spending 10k + on your new car its no biggy, just a pain.

No problems to look for as far as generic problems with the ED30. FVWSH a must IMO or at least a full service schedule carried out by a VW indie specialised. Make sure it's had a new Camebelt/Waterpump fitted at 4 years or 60000 (which ever came first) otherwise that's another £400+.

Xenons are a good thing to have, Multi Function Steering Wheel (MFSW) etc etc tec. Pretty much everything can be retro fitted and no matter what it is there is a guide on here on how to fit it.

Once your have made 10 posts you can use the Search facility and will find topics on everything and anything you might want to know.

Then once you've got your new car, we will help you spend all your hard earned on modifying it.

Cheers.  :happy2:

Thanks for that. Yes def want one with fvwsh. I take it not all of the ed30s have multifunction steering wheel. Thought that would of been standard! Is milage a big issue on these in the way of becoming unreliable etc? Went to visit 1 the otger day about ab hour away just had 82k on the clock wich put me off. Ive got around 11k to play with on buying one. Maybe a bit more if its well specd up.

MFSW was an option. There just buttons on your steering wheel so not a major must have IMO.

As to mileage, it's obviously better to get the latest possible ED30 with the lowest possible mileage but not essential in any way. As you know, you will sacrifice high spec and low low mileage for a lower price. We had a chap on here selling a 3dr Torado Red ED30, through Pistonheads, with (I think) 2k on the clock, fully loaded for 20k +. He never drove it and was part of his collection (lucky sod). Money no object, you'd but that or an ED35.

Lots of lovely cars for sale on here. I would have no problem buying a car from a (well known or established) forum member as that car will, generally, have been well looked after with all the appropriate servicing and maintainence carried out and will have been looked after, being as it is/was owned by an enthusiast. You can also go through their previous posts and see what they may have done to the car. I know I write most things I do to my car.

 :happy2:
