Should I change my coilpacks?
« on: August 16, 2012, 01:55:11 pm »
Hi Peeps,

My coilpacks have the production date of 10/06... My car is in for a service on the 8th September, is it worth updating them...

Ideally I'd like the red ones, i will search for the part number unless anyone has to hand?

Cheers,

Dom

Do you know the version number, it's on the underside of the coil pack.

If you are lucky, you may be able to have them replaced FOC by VW if you're in the coil pack recall group so ring your VW service department and ask before buying.

Thanks bud, I asked at my first Main dealer service whether there was any recalls outstanding on the car and the girl said no, so just left it.... but if they were produced in October 2006, surely they won't be the latest revision?

Not sure how to remove to look tbh.

Do fancy some red ones now though  :signLOL:

Yup, your coilpacks if unchanged will be a few revisions behind the latest version.
You can get the red ECS ones from http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk5/red-ignition-coil-pack-set-2-0tfsi

Removing the coil packs if you have the engine cover off is quite easy and needs no special tools.

I'm not running a engine cover at the mo, how do the coilpacks come off?

how do the coilpacks come off?
Unclip the coil pack harness (4 electrical connectors).
Pull the packs up. I used a pair of zip ties under the head of each one - give them a wee wiggle and coax them up - easy!

I'm sure your car should of been part of the coil pack recall, if your car is 07 and prior , if it's 57 and on, it wasn't AFAIK.

Check with another Stealer Dom.

Recently switched from a D to a G on the K03.

However, I'm so concerned about the new rubber diaphragm splitting under the heat of the K03, that I seem have purchased a K04  :signLOL:
