Thinking catch cans...

Ok been reading lots this afternoon about catchcans/pcvs...

Is it still wise to go for a catch set up?

Have BSH sorted the problems with the fittings/pipes crushing?

Where's best to get a kit from?

Hi Dom,

If your reading has included various posts and reviews on this forum, you'll see that opinions are somewhat split.

My own conclusion is that I probably wouldn't buy one if I was buying now but I am nonetheless very happy with my Forge system and wasn't happy with my BSH. And although I highly rate Revo for remaps a BSH with Revo badges doesn't impress me.

It doesn't stop the build up of nasties but it does reduce them and that can't be a bad thing. Good catch can systems tend to be expensive and so that might influence how you prioritise it.

I expect, but don't know for certain, that the latest OEM revision is improved (otherwise why have VW revised it?) but I doubt if it eliminates the problem entirely. The problem is apparently common to all engines of this type. It seems to be one of the things sacrificed in the quest to improve emissions.

I wouldn't bother personally. You don't run your car at high rpms long enough for the can to do anything beneficial .

Get the latest revision PCV .. Rev N for ours.

What I'm thinking Steve... Have the part numbers Steve? Only part I can find is on the pipe and that ends E. any ideas of prices?

Do the catch cans manage to catch most of the white gunk that sits under the oil cap in winter?

I'm pretty sure the one he ordered is 06f129101N, and I remember him telling me it was about £27. Best wait for him to confirm that though.

....Well I never get any of that oil cap gunk so I assume the answer is yes.

But I thought that gunk under the oil cap was a sign of something else needing attention though....     ? ? ? ?

No a lot of us get it from short journeys in winter, in summer it disappears.
