Best way to remove whip aeriel base.... Whats This for?
« on: July 30, 2012, 06:19:45 pm »
As subject,

looking to change the whip to a fin but have been told the best way is via the boot, remove the panel and then that would give enough access.....

but just having a look it seems i would also need to remove the quarter panels aswell?

anyone got a guide or a step by step as i would be shattered if i messed up my roof lining.

No.

You don't need to remove the quarter panels.

I didn't...!!!

The truth is that you'll have less access but just be very careful and everything is going to be OK.

surely more people have fiddled around with the whip.

also want to know about leaving the whip in the roof lining as iirc once the fin is installed you won't be able to get radio  :sad1:

i'm not interested in the dual fin/whip so it looks like a hidden whip route for me.

Just remove the plastic end panel and the two 10mm nuts and it should give you enough access to get at the main nut holding the base in place.  :happy2:

All mk 5s have an ariel in the rear windscreen as far as I know someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure I looked it up one time and I asked my mate who works at vw and all mk 5s apparently have one in the rear screen, I'll soon find out when my car comes out the bodyshop from getting the roof ariel smoothed off so if I have no signal I'll know why lol

Right - Now i removed my aeriel base and disconnected it - I asummed the wire connection was the connection for the FM radio but this is still crystal clear. so what exactly is the wire on the bottom of the base for?  :surprised:

   :popcornsoda:

Your reception will still be there as it will use the aerial in the back window

My early 05 plate gti never had a roof aerial only rear window one so I have no idea why they decided to put one on the roof when they still have one in the window it looks much better without it on he roof IMO
