Good point Robin.

But I would still have the Noble and the 'Golf'

Maybe even a new MK6 GTI and a Noble :P

Or a Polo GTI and a Noble :signLOL:

Hahaa, some great answers there guys. The reason I posted was because someone mentioned to me why not just have an RS3 as you'd only have to do a map and an intake to get more than a stage 2 Golf .:R and almost as much as a Loba L04XX Golf .:R.

My heart has been with VW for a while now and really I wish I'd gone straight from the ED30 to the Golf .:R rather than "faffing" (as my wife said! :ashamed:) with the Lexus and the Polo in between.

So, I'll be back in a Golf and spending some dough. I'm "just" going to do stage 2+ at first and see how the car feels at that. Going to the Loba would mean a serious heft of cash, but would/will be one hell of a motor.

The RS3 was great when I test drove one, but even with 340ps it still felt quite anaemic even compared to a stock Golf .:R. Subjective I know and out of the 2 the RS3 would be faster on the straight, but as JonnyC proved at his trip to Brunters a stage 2+ Golf .:R can do the 1/4 mile in under 12 seconds and 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, so do you/I really need anything faster? :driver:

Golf R gone.

I would go with the TTrs as it handles better as standard than the RS3 and we all know the engine is good for 650hp on standard internals so if you feel you want more power you can with jst a turbo OR if you can stretch to it 997 turbo and map that and you'd be at stage 3 2.5tfsi levels with a chassis that wont need modifying!

But where do you stop, by the time you've modded the golf your at RS3/TTRS territory and by the time youve modded them your at 997 turbo levels :rolleye:

Was lucky enough to get a passenger ride in a swedish 370BHP Golf R at the Nurburgring last year and all I can say is WOW....DSG box and man who tells me he's only driving 80% with 100+ laps behind him is a very scary combination!!! So ill vote for the .:R

I reckon if you were to ask about this when the cars are a few years old and done the majority of their depreciation i think the golf R would be a great choice then.

How long do we reckon until the golf R is in the 10-15k price range?

Still think a stage 3 B8 S4 3.0TFSI with a bigger supercharger would be a great option and more fun because its new territory.  The 2.0TFSI has been done already, which ruins some of the fun i think.

Dont modify it. Just enjoy the car. You are chasing something with VWs that just doesn't exist.  A remap, leave it at that.

If you are so desperate for a car that does 10 second quarters, there are cheaper ways.

You will make the car have unusable power, like the Polo did.

Someone ban this man!!  :P

Whilst I agree to some extent...... I would say its the journey not the destination that is the fun bit  :innocent:

^^^^^ this.

My circumstances at the time made the decision to part with my ttrs easy one. I wanted to play and have a nice daily, I was not due to move jobs for a good few years (if ever)life was good, I had every weekend and evening off.  A new job (which came out of the blue) blew it out of the water!  I now work 110 miles away from home have an amazing gf who lives near my job, and do a bit of spannering in the vw cup  so don't really get home much, once every 8 weeks or so as it stands.

My point being I will be back in a ttrs one day, my circumstances have changed, i sold at the right time......2nd prices are good. Now is a very good time to buy a used ttrs, circa £29k for a 20k mile well specced example..........

My heart has been with VW for a while now and really I wish I'd gone straight from the ED30 to the Golf .:R rather than "faffing" (as my wife said! :ashamed:) with the Lexus and the Polo in between.

This is my route , waiting until the Golf R hits around 16K then I will be all over one (hopefully around 3 to 3.5 years old), let someone else pay the 50% depreciation  :happy2:

So, I'll be back in a Golf and spending some dough. I'm "just" going to do stage 2+ at first and see how the car feels at that. Going to the Loba would mean a serious heft of cash, but would/will be one hell of a motor.

I think as some others have said a stage 2+ Golf R with about 360bhp will be plenty quick enough to keep up show a clean pair of heels to most cars

:driver:

For me the RS3 is not a great looking car, "Bread Van" springs to mind, but sound of 5 pot and tuning potential does have its benefits  :happy2:

....Did/Does Hurdy's Polo "have unusable power"? - I haven't ridden in it but I don't think so.

Funny as I was stood in an Audi showroom yesterday looking at an RS3 hoping it was spark some interest deep inside by brain......

But no, it still looks as dull as dish water to me! (apologies to the guys on here that have them)

I also spent some time in a Stage 2 TTRS that a pal of mine has and it is fookin epic and if I had the money I'd have one in an instant!!  :notworthy:
