Cambelt broke on a 2.0 TFSI
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:26:34 pm »
Today had a Audi A4 estate into our garage with the 2.0 tfsi lump in, cambelt had snapped and usually you get some bent valves on most cars but this engine seems to completely obliterate itself! All valves have been mashed and fooooked the vlave guides most the rockers have snapped and the variable timing unit was in bits so its all scrap! So next time your cambelt is due get it done!!!!

Good price if that includes new roller and tensioner.
I suggest you also change your water pump at the same time as the old one tends to fail after the belt has been changed.
Without traction power is nothing!

That's going to cost a couple of quid!

I take it this cars Camebelt was way past it's "change date"? Does make you wonder why peeps don't look after their cars re. Services and regular maintenance. Peeps spent 10-15k on a car plus many thousands on mods and moan about £400 for a Camebelt/Waterpump change.

Very good price, as above, do the Waterpump as well. Had my lot done this year at VW Main Dealer while it was in for it's 4th year service. From VW main website.

Not the cheapest at £479 though

Trick gti - the guy just said leave it with us for the day n it'll be sorted  he just stated Campbell, water pump, 'auxiliary belt' and the coolant I think (I might be just spouting out random car words here!). So I'd imagine that would be the kit?!

Mc71 - that's not too bad from a main dealer I suppose. Worth it for peace of mind possibly. That's my conundrum, do I pay more but at least be safe in the knowledge if something does go wrong I can just waltz back into vw. Don't know if smaller garages would be quite so accommodating. I've always had minor work done at small garages just not so sure with Campbell after hearing tales of woe....

Make sure they change the bolts for the engine mount too. If they reuse them people have had issues with them coming loose.

Garrardrj, that's a good price, take it you went for that then?! Just rang my local vw, gave me waffle about it usually costing £600+ but they'd offer me the special fixed price of £479.

Deako, thanks, thats useful  :happy2:
