The two big wires entering the module are the power into the door. Red/Yellow is power and Brown is Ground. Buzz the ground through to the pins on the 32-pin connector.

According to this page; http://www.my-gti.com/2158 Power is pin 1 and ground is pin 2 on the Gen 1 or 2

Oh, and RE: the puddle lights. I'll get some pictures of them on later (when it gets dark!). I used the my-gti page for the pinout and verified it with a multimeter. I used 4 x 4-pin LED's in each mirror on a strip of veroboard.

At the moment the LED's pull around 1/2 of the current of a bulb so I get a "Electrical fault in circuit" warning. I intend to add additional LED's to bring the power consumpition up to the 5W of the bulb and kill the error. They work fine though.

Did exactly that, I've found power and ground- just waiting for mate to vag con it, and find time to do other three doors :)
