280hp in a R26R would put you at a higher bhp/ton than a Ed30 Stage 2+ as well, so not only could you spank em on the straights, you'll annihilate them though the bends

Not too sure how you have worked that one out Sy?!?!

Either way, the Meg is a cracking motor/toy that has Mk5's licked when it comes to corners / fun factor. It's not particularly rapid in a straight line, but that's not the point of the car. Great choice IMO, now go embarrass some amatuer super car owners at your local track  :happy2:

alright, but it would be near enough.  Must remember not to talk down the k04 engine...

stage 2+ dyno dynamics is typically somewhere between 330Hp.

The Ed30 if running 330hp and weighing in at approx 1395kg  = 236hp/ton.
The meganne if running 280hp and weighing in at 1230kg =227hp/ton

Its near enough.  an extra 10-15hp/ton wouldnt help it much.  The R26R would be gone, which i guess is kind of what i was trying to get at

^^^^^^
Plus the r26 has better straight line traction, the revo knuckle some how does what it does in the corners
In the straights too.

The revoknuckle is the way forward for FWD i wonder if a retrofit is possible on the edition 30.

Anything is possible If you have enough money to get someone like Alex to custom fab all the bits to make it work.

Talk down the KO4 as much as you like pal, I don't have one anymore  .
However, for those that do - the only RR that gives Stage 2+ cars 330bhp is JKM and I dare say that a Stage 2 R26R would not get anywhere near 280bhp on the same rollers. 280bhp for a R26/R is a very healthy Stage 2 from what I have seen/read (decat, FMIC, injectors, filter and everything crossed) and this is on RS Tuning's DD rollers. Stage 2+ KO4's make 350-360bhp all day long on the same rollers, so a much fairer comparison if we are comparing apples.

Regarding fatness - When mine and 2 other ED30's were weighed-in on corner scales at Marham, they all hovered around the 1360kgs mark. So given that and the difference in power, there is still a fair gap between the 2 when it comes to power/weight and straight line poke. But then the Mk5 would definitely need that trump card if they were to cross paths on a track, just to save utter embarrassment if anything else ..   :ashamed::laugh:

My best mate had a Stage 2 R26 for a couple of years and although it was carrying an extra 100kgs or so over the R, it wasn't in the same time zone as my old motor when on the loud peddle (by his own admission). However, put them in to anything that has a curve and I would of swapped drivers seats instantly.

Power to weight ratio doesn't give a true reflection of performance though Sy. My new Exige has 288 hp / tonne (291 PS / tonne) so you would think it would munch a stage 2+ Eddie. I think it would beat it to 80MPH but after that i reckon the Eddie would catch up and sail past. The headline figures just dont account for actual on the road situation. I reckon if you did one of Ron's famous 30 to 40 MPH rolling starts with 3 blasts of the horn the Eddie would easily beat the Meg and an Exige.  :happy2:

true, gearing has a lot to do with it, id imagine the exige is geared pretty low though.

Great out of the box track weapon.

You will need to spend thousands on a MK5 to make it into such a car and it's much heavier.

The R26R is what it is a well resolved track weapon and I'd have one if a Renault appealed.

I've had some good track battles against a few of these in my MK2 16V which like the R26R has great power to weight, chassis finesse and a substantial investment over the years. It looks OE and is the one featured in the GTI Tuning bible that Tim Stiles has written.
The other car similar for a great track car is the Honda Teg DC2 or DC5.....or import only Mugen Civic.

Downside on my MK2 is that brilliant though it is for track it aint civilised as an everyday car which I think is where the MK5 scores. Even my Stage 2 APR Ed30 with Clubsports and sticky rubber couldn't match my MK2 around Come which laps in the 1.21-1.22.....1.20 round Donnington

Out the box the MK5 is great for most but to make it into a real track weapon you need careful use of parts and weight reduction.

Talking of track car's my neighbour's E92 M3 which he bought for £20k for a heavy ish car is a surprisingly good track car which is born out my various reviews from Chris Harris and Evo....
Pearl Black Edition 30 3 Door. DSG. (3rd Edition 30)
Maybe on the too do list: APR Stage 2+, KW Clubsports, Brakes, Diff.

went to change the air box a few weekends ago, didnt have right tools though like a tool, so thought i'll just put the uprated panel filter in for now, the new box takes in more air

new filter

took the old one out to find it was already a KnN filter

i put the new one in for now, also fitted the black boost brackets too

from workin a little bit on the car, its a pig of a car to work on, no room, everythings really awkward also, should be fun

gettin the AD08's taken off tomorrow

unfortunatly not for pure winter tyres but just for the michelin pilot sport 3's ive still got. Not the best winter tyres but miles better than the AD08's and not buying a third set of tyres

also lookin at bigger coolers at the minute too

thought id put these pics up also

the car ventured to the Pistonheads Malton meet a few weeks ago

here are a couple of pics i found on the tinterweb
